🏈 The Hottest Hot Seats

We have a thread in this forum now nearing 20 posts which discusses the angst among fans of Lee County Trade School fans concerning the plight of their football program and the viewed deficiencies of their once beloved HC. While his is the hottest seat at the moment, others have issues with their fans as well. Here is my ranking in order of temperature of the SEC coaches on the hot seat.

1. The once proclaimed Gus Bus is now on the side of the road with a flat tire and steam boiling out from the engine. Rumor has it that there is a "Go Fund Me" account to buy out his contract.

2. Les was bailed out last year and soothed feelings somewhat with a bowl win, but things definitely heated up with the loss at Wisconsin. Offensive (make that quarterback) woes continue, after two unimpressive wins. Here is a Sportsbook proposition. I think that the losing coach in this Saturday's corn dogs v. barn match up will be fired at the end of this season, if not before.

3. The Aggies fast start this year has cooled the seat temperature considerably in College Station this year, but I don't think he is secure yet, in spite of a much better defense. After all, they didn't add all those seats to Kyle Field just to be a good team. Their fan base crves championships, and if Sumlin can't get them there, then they will be joining the coaching hunt.

4. If Kentucky gave a rip about football, Stoops would be in deep trouble, but right now the typical UK fan is anticipating Midnight Madness and the beginning of basketball season far more that this weekend's home football game versus South Carolina. They will grumble a bit, as they had hopes of bowl eligibility, but hey, watching an intra squad basketball game is more fun than basking in the glow of the Birmingham Bowl in January.

5. The rosy glow that Vandy fans felt fter the success under Franklin has mostly faded away now. Reality has set in, and Vandy is back to being Vandy. Derek Mason's third season is starting to look like his first two. This has led to resignation rather than rage among the Commodore faithful. Of the five coaches Mason is the least likely to be fired, in my opinion.

If Gus doesn't turn it around, he could be gone before the end of the season.
It's too early to predict Les' fate. He could win the rest of this season.
Sumlin is okay. The QB exodus doesn't appear to have impacted the quality of the team. He's safe for now, but that could change rapidly.
In a normal school, Stoops could be gone by midseason. Like Les, it's too early to make a judgement on him. They can still make a bowl game, and that's their goal.
Mason just needs to be better than last season. In theory, that shouldn't be hard. But, who would they hire?

I thought pre-season the loser of the Barn / aTm game would be looking for a new job. If Gus loses to LSU...he may well be gone. despite the contract extension and pay issues.

Gus and staff have a total $13,795,000 buyout. Say they really want Petrino, his buyout is somewhere around another $10 million dollars. So if they really like Bobby Petrino that's $24 mil on the hoof. Then I would suspect he would demand at least $5 mil a year to be convinced to coach the barn. Might as well get resolved the real problem down there while you're at it, AD Jay Jacobs at $3 mil. See, you can fix anything with just a few dollars.

But they have a"Go Fund Me Account" set up, so money is no issue now. :rolf:

.....

not a rumor, it's a real thing (as sad as it really is)

and what's hilarious is that on the go fund me page, they actually say "Apparently our flagship university can't afford to buy him out of his contract,..."

really? you guys think auburn is the flagship university? might want to go check that again.

Agree. And if he leaves, Lashlee will almost assuredly go with him. Kevin Steele could finally be a HC, albeit for a week or two.

Briles is being very silent...I wonder if someone has been talking to him. A lot of barner fans are starting to think the rape problem was...an isolated experience. They're desparate.

IMO, Briles is still too hot to touch. Any team that fires their coach will wait until after the season to see who is available/interested. I thought I remembered something that Petrino or the school put into his contract to hamper his quick departure due to his history. Maybe it was just a huge buyout.
