I don't see it as a play on Forest Gump. I see it meaning "gumption," as in the word. But if they meant the "Forest" variety, I say embrace the Gump. Nothing gets in the craw of would be haters more than taking their intended insult and and turning it into a badge of honor, like "redneck."
 
Whatever it is, that was a hell of a win, and I think just about anyone could just say just anything about us right now...and it wouldn't bother me one bit. We had a hell of a win in a chaotic environment. We took their best shot on the chin and proved that we're the best in the nation.

I think y'all are taking it wrong. It's a play on the Junction Boys, and there is nothing wrong with the word Gumption. The Merriam-Webster definition is simple: "courage and confidence." It is absolutely fitting. If it were a play on Forrest Gump, the "G-u-m-p" portion would have been in quotes or italicized.
