This morning I came across this article and I immediately thought of UCONN, Shabazz Napier, and his infamous "I go to bed hungry" story from '14.
When I saw Napier's comments posted, everywhere, I immediately started wondering how that basketball program was being administered by Kevin Ollie and what he had inherited, in terms of culture, from Jim Calhoun.
It wasn't long after that we learned UCONN had the worst graduation rate of any team in the tourney in '14. It was estimated less than 10% of their players were graduating. If you recall, this was in the wake of the sanctions handed down by the NCAA a couple of years earlier.
Now, this morning, I came across this:
That was in response to reports that have the B1G commish, Jim Delany, scheduled to receive more than 20 million in bonus payments.
(It should come as no shock that former Duke basketball player, DUKE, and current ESPN analyst Jay Bilas was back on his high horse about pay for players-- here, here, and here.)
I've left no doubt in others minds--at least I think so--that I hold little respect for Delany purely based on his duplicitous nature. But, that's not the point of my mentioning this.
Michigan football fullback, Khalid Hill, is the one that started (or re-kindled) this "fire." Am I off base to think this is a replay of UCONN? In both cases I see a lack of discretion.
We've seen Harbaugh traipse around the world these last two years drawing as much attention to himself under the guise of putting Michigan in the spotlight. He's been quick to jump into the fray with people like Finebaum, which, in my opinion, is yet another case of the lack of discretion.
I've said on a few occasions I'm not sold on the hype surrounding Harbaugh. Like Mack Brown's tenure at UNC, I don't see a few big wins at Stanford as something that defines what he's going to do in Ann Arbor. Let's use the word doubtful.
For those who want to jump on the Michigan bandwagon this year, let me help you up. I'll remain by the side of the trail.
