🏈 The continuing rumors of Saban and Texas

Or you can unequivocally be the greatest ever after becoming the only coach in the history of football to win National Championships at 3 different schools.

If he stays and wins another national title at Alabama, then how can you argue against him that he already isn't the greatest ever? Look, Alabama went through what Texas is going through right now, just worse with probation and much longer. Saban came in and turned it around in 2 years. Right now, Saban is thinking of his legacy. Going to Texas, rebuilding them, and winning a national title is very persuading, but if he is trying to go for the "without a doubt the greatest college HC ever", then all he has to do is win another title at 'Bama. 4 national titles at one school in this time of age is unheard of. I don't know if he will leave or not, but if I were in his position and at his age, I would stay put. He already has the money, he has the power over the program he wants, and he can get whatever recruit he wants. Why would he want to go down to another University and just start all over again?

Why? It's not like Texas is a total rebuilding job. He'd be taking over a team that is currently 8-4. While that isn't championship level football like Saban has created at Alabama, it still isn't chopped liver either.

I think a man like Saban knows that no other coach in history has won championships, National Championships, at 3 different places. Outside of Alabama, he wouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Bear Bryant unless is was a reference to them both coaching at the same school. Saban can win championships in Austin, with more money, and become a legend. He would become the Michael Jordan of College Football. The All-time greatest.

He doesn't need Texas on his resume to be the greatest, winning a National Championship at Texas won't make him the All Time Greatest, win 7 Nc's would put him in the ball park though. He doesn't need Texas to do that. Keep Sniffing in the State of Alabama though, cause its a given you will find National Championship caliber coaches, I just don't think your gonna get the guy you want. Oh yeah, you might want to talk to the powers to be there in Texas on how to handle firing and hiring a coach, cause its a cluster.

Watching Alabama fans and Texas fans argue over which program is the historical best is THE BEST MOST ENTERTAINING thing that could ever happen on the internet except for the recreation of Star Wars Episode 4 in ASCI art.

Your grammar sucks. Content? Award winning!! :very_drunk:

This guy has done exactly what he wanted to do on this board, stir shit up.

Based on what I've seen, in just two threads, he's getting stuff thrown at him to a greater degree than he's tossing it out...

my sources are telling me that saban is in fact leaving alabama. reportedly he is opening up a kia dealership somewhere in the west va. area. i will keep you posted as to any new developments as they become available.

:icon_cheers: Finally someone with real, factual info. CNS is going west but it's West by God Virginia not that other place out west.

Maybe so. I think a case can be made either way, Texas or Alabama, as to where Saban can go finish his career and winning championships at either place is going to give him a solid argument on having the title as best ever. But why not Austin?

Austin vs. Tuscaloosa. Debatable which is better. My vote is Austin by a country mile.

Money - Texas money vs Alabama money. I keep hearing that Alabama will match anything that Texas throws at Saban. What I have never heard is if they will exceed what Texas offers. I don't think they can. Texas has so much oil money that their big boosters will substantially up the salary offer to Saban, or anyone they want, just to win an auction at any cost. It's petty yes, but never underestimate the arrogant egos of some of our oldest, wealthiest oilmen. I admit, it's sickening. If Texas wants to buy the Taj Mahal for Saban, then it will.

rumors abound on the radio. Alabama contract extension and raised offer of $7 million per yr. Texas offer at $12 mill per yr.
To those that prefer the country lifestyle over city-slicking, is Tuscaloosa $5 million dollars better than Austin? If that is the difference, I don't think it is.

Saban would have to take 2-3 years to weed out all of the "softness" that resides in that program. If he is going to coach for only 6-8 more years, why in the HELL would he waste 3 of those just on changing the mindset?

He only needs 2 more NC to tie Bryant for NC wins. He already has more BCS than anybody else could ever get since this is the last BCS year. With the playoffs coming he could easily be in the running for another 2-4 NC at Alabama in the next 6-8 years. He doesn't need Texas for that.

Pointing to an 8-4 record isn't going very far with any fan base—sans one in Austin, perhaps? Pointing to a conference record that's just one game over .500 over the last three years? That's an accurate assessment.

What do I think of when I see this 8-4 record you're leaning on? TX is Vanderbilt, without the academic requirements. It's a program on the same level as an Ole Miss—wait, can that really be said?

The assertion that Saban wouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Bryant if he didn't coach in Tuscaloosa lacks any foundation. We're a little over a decade removed from Spurrier getting comparisons to Bryant with one national championship. How many coaches in collegiate football history have won back-to-back NC's? Ah, one named Bryant and one named Saban come to mind.

The assumption that "money can buy" goes to demonstrate the overblown sense of importance found in Austin. Yes, there's no doubt TX can throw a lot of money at the Saban's. There's no doubt it's a very closed minded argument for the same fan base to assume "all we have to do is throw a lot of money at ______, and he'll agree to coach in Austin." This mentality of the Longhorn fan base is a joke and after hearing Harbaugh's comments about the TX job it shouldn't be a stretch to see this fact.

First of all, what you're hearing is garbage. But if it isn't, and y'all are really willing to pay a coach $12 mill, then the UT education isn't anywhere near what it's cracked up to be. That's just stupid.

I know subjects like this are what keep sports talk radio and sports forums up and running but in the words of Chris Carter.....COME ON MAN!!

Anyone can sway an arguement to their side on most any subject so why exactly are we 6 pages into this??

Well then, at what point does Alabama stop and say, "We love you Coach Saban, but we aren't going to pay that much."
???

I think that is the big elephant-in-the-room type of question that many, especially Texas fans, want to know.
