🏈 The Coaching Carousel : UT promotes Kelsey Pope to WR coach

I didn't expect Notre Dame to go the coordinator route with their hire considering how poorly it's worked in the past.
Do not know anything about the staff and this guy. Seems popular in the locker room but that can be more about emotion. I certainly would be concerned if I were a ND fan just simply because this guy has not shown he can be a head coach anywhere much less at ND and all that brings with it.

If it goes well, they will be set for some time, which is their approach.
On the ESPN College Football Podcast Galloway quoted Swarbrick saying the decision was largely based on how Freeman meshed with the locker room. His age undoubtedly plays a role there.

In one of those "What if's..."

Ed Orgeron had Freeman as "his guy" a year ago when Kelly pulled him from Cincy. Would he have been given the same consideration from LSU? Imagine that decision between ND and LSU as DC. It's such a contrast in cultures.

They knew who they had in Bob Davie but didn't know if he could run a program successfully. He was their DC for four or five years before getting the nod: a popular guy in the locker room.

Weiss only had coordinator experience. We know how that ended.

On the other hand Willingham had experience. I thought then, and I still do today, he'd never been hired at Notre Dame with his record if it were anywhere other than Stanford. (IE: A Stanford guy can fit with our culture.)

Reported before the game last night. Last nights loss probably doesn't matter to the Miami folk considering he just lost to Utah two weeks ago.
