Riley wants to be somewhere he can win the conference without much effort as far as I can tell. PAC12 has few good teams so he can make they playoffs 3 out of every 5 and be good for years
I'm not saying this won't matter. I don't think it will. Michigan looks to be the team to beat and I understand he was going to be on a visit this past weekend with the Wolverines (good weekend for them, eh?)
He strikes me as the kind of kid that's not going to get caught up in a circus and the OU to USC move is going to carry that kind of publicity. It's been a week or so since I got caught up talking about defensive backs and as of that point I'm of the impression Bama lands Jackson; EL Jr. as well.
The move to the SEC makes his job at OU more difficult. Starting with Drew Sanders Bama has snagged one of OU's "priority recruits" every year it seems. He's looking at needing to beef up both lines; talent found in the SE. Recruiting kids from the SE to OU is on a different plane than OU playing their games in the SE in front of those kids.
On the same note he's putting himself in the middle of quarterback country. A hell of a lot of talent in SoCal, enough to spread around the country as you can see from rosters this season.
Oklahoma lost four commitments on Sunday following the news that Lincoln Riley had accepted the head-coaching job at USC, including five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson, the No. 3-ranked prospect in the class of 2023.
I don't think Riley is a guy that will turn around USC. The way Cristobal is building Oregon, Riley won't just be able to outscore a team like he could at Oklahoma. Utah and Oregon play with decent defense these days, and that's something Riley hasn't accomplished as a head coach yet.
When Carroll left, they had no choice but to grab Kiffin. Sneaky or not. There was a skeleton in every closet and Kiffin knew where all of the closets were. Paid him a ridiculous amount to keep his mouth shut.

Biggest issue or USC is the relevance of the PAC 12. Do they have a plan to fix the mess that Larry Scott created? If not then he just jumped to a historically program that is in a dead conference. The dead conference may be hard to overcome. Also, is there real interest in college sports any longer on the west coast? Do not get me wrong great hire for USC just trying to understand the value to Riley. Is he going to something or getting away from something?
