šŸˆ The Coaching Carousel : UT promotes Kelsey Pope to WR coach

Watching what Penn State and Michigan State just did is like watching the first round of the NFL draft. Teams freak out and pick a 2nd round quarterback at 8 or 6. I sit back and say ā€œdon’t the decision makers watch football?ā€

Not the Franklin is a bad coach or Mel but they are not worth the money they just received. Then again, I suppose the AD and boosters think it’s better than letting them walk and starting over. It just goes to show how much money is in college football…..more than the GNP of many countries
Yeah, and I’m living in one of my kids’ basement, so basically, I’m homeless. The difference is a roof over my head instead of a cardboard box.

And they are driving the price up for the other guys... like if LSU wants Lincoln Riley, they are going to have to pay a fortune (and they will).

Louisiana Tech and head football coach Skip Holtz have agreed to part ways, the school announced Friday.

Holtz, 57, will coach his final game with the Bulldogs on Saturday against Rice.

"Skip and I talked and agreed it was time for a change for both parties," Eric Wood, vice president and director of athletics, said in a statement Friday. "Louisiana Tech owes Skip a debt of gratitude for his loyalty and dedication to our football student-athletes, our University, and our community over the past decade."

Said Holtz: "This is the right time for me to evaluate a new start in my career. I've had the privilege of mentoring young people and building football programs for more than 30 years, including the last nine as head coach of Louisiana Tech. The past two seasons have brought additional challenges to our program, and I simply think it is time for someone else to have the chance to lead this special group of young men."

In nine years at Louisiana Tech, Holtz has compiled a 64-49 record heading into Saturday's finale against the Owls. He led the Bulldogs to seven bowl appearances with six wins in those games.

The 2016 Conference USA Coach of the Year said that his coaching days are far from over.

Both Tucker and Franklin struck while emotions were high and in my view are way over paid now especially for what they have accomplished. I do not blame them this is the administrations at each institution making emotional decisions just like the Barn has done for years. Bet there will be buyers remorse over these two situations in a few years if not sooner.
If those guys are ā€œworthā€ that much money then there aren’t enough zeroes available in T-Town to pay Saban what he’s worth.

Committed recruits too. Silly season is upon us early.
Is it?

With the signing dates changed in college football I think we can dismiss "coaches aren't talking to other schools before the season ends" cliches. Talk about being behind the eight ball ... imagine taking over a program after the December signing date. It's a class lost based on what we've seen over the last few years.

Of course coaches are talking if they have any plans of either possibly leaving or trying to get an extension. The regular season is basically over for most and the playoff teams are down to 6-8 possibilities at most (barring a complete collapse by multiple teams). You damn sure want to get into your next year job for recruiting purposes.

It's more the "lets determine who was hired by who follows them on Twitter" that I was talking about. Folks try to read tea leaves in anything right now. That is the silly season.

Why would both Will Wade and Jay Johnson—within minutes of each other—follow a football coach from another school during a search process like this one?

Yep gotta think where there is smoke there is fire. Now Riley may be just playing the game or he may be honestly interested and just looking for a change. I am thinking the latter.

Why was Riley calling coaches last week putting feelers out for a staff? Ploy?

It'll be fun seeing how this all plays out. Woodward with a deadline to Riley and he said, "no?" šŸ¤” So it's told.
