🏈 Thayer Evans article on Clowney

This is a quote from an article through Scout.....I like it.

"What Clowney must improve on is the use of his hands. At the Under Armour All-America game, Clowney ran into an offensive tackle for the first time who could anticipate his quickness in Alabama signee and Scout's No. 2 overall prospect Cyrus Kouandjio. When Kouandjio was able to get his hands on Clowney, he had trouble disengaging from the mammoth 6'6 and 320 pound offensive tackle. To that point in his career Clowney had yet to run into a player on the field who could compete with him athletically "

I"m NOT gonna say I'm glad he isn't coming to 'Bama... good grief.

I hope I don't sound like the lunatic fringe that can be in a fan base but to put it simply:

If CNS wanted him, then he had the best means to evaluate him & would've been pleased w/ his commitment then I would've been as well.

Thank those of you that were honest about wanting him at Bama. He would be a great catch for any school that bagged his signature this morning. We all like the sound bites about wanting kids that are tops in the classroom and on the field but we all know in reality that doesn't happen that often. And for every kid that finishes as an academic All-American, we have two that are just killer athletes. It isn't PC, it isn't great but we all know it is the reality. They can't all carry a 4.0 and be great at football. That's why Vanderbilt is in the cellar of the SEC. Duke won't be winning the ACC in football any time soon.

Yes, he sounded fairly ignorant and immature in the article. Yes, he seems to enjoy himself. So what?! If that same article were written about him and he had picked up the UA hat this morning, you guys would join Auburn and Texas fans in hatred for Thayer Evans.

Never trust a man with that much hair gel. Words to live by...

I posted here a few weeks ago that I was leaning towards not wanting him to commit to the Tide. It was about the drama, and I didn't want any part of it.

Yesterday, hearing that we were in his top three was nice...and, if he'd chosen Alabama I'll admit I'd be happy about that.

All that said...

My problem has been fans saying he's making a mistake by playing at South Carolina. It's simply not true. Both USCe (and NC for that matter) have put a lot of talent in the NFL. Sure, it would be nice to see a kid succeed in T-town and then make it to the next level...but, his choice of USCe vs Clemson/Bama isn't going to have a drastic effect on his draft status.

So Title-Town's not for everybody. We'd have loved to have had his talent, but we're not exactly hurting in the talent department. Good luck to him.
Now that recruiting season is officially over, let the run for the 2011 National Championship begin. Next stop - A-Day and the unveiling of Saban's statue.

Roll Tide!

Here's something you should think about regarding South Carolina and SOS as well.

This year, Clowney is the top kid in the state and nation. He stays at home but we are in his final choices.

Last year it was Lattimore and it came down to USCe and Auburn. He stays at home.

The year before that it was down to Bama and USCe for Stephon Gilmore. He stays at home as well.

Two things to notice here...in the last days, we are in the running for the top talent in the nation with great classes already in place.

Between Dabo and SOS, they are really beginning to close their state borders. They've still lost a few over the last few years...Robert Quinn to UNC, Carlos Dunlap to UF...

I'm not going to start baggin on this guy because he didn't pick us. I've seen the video, and the guy is unreal quick off th end. I did get a feeling that he'd be a little bit undersized at the position, and in the SEC, of all places, he's gonna face the best of the best. The verdict is out on ALL of these guys, the ones that signed with us, and the ones that didn't, until they do it on the field, in the SEC. It's the minor leagues for the NFL.

This does not sound like a kid who has had someone school him up on what he needed to be focused on in recruiting; shocking considering that he was #1 over all.

Having fun and girls may have been emphasized by the writer of the article, but those words should have never come out of his mouth for the writer to key in on.

He takes issue with a coach having an hour worth of something to say about what he is offering? I would be offended if they didn't have an hour worth of talking to get in.

When Girls, 4x Jumbotrons, and riding ATVs are the take-away from a visit, someone is not focused on what they should be. Troublesome as well is that he believes that he will not have to do some adapting; speaking of the 3-4 vs. 4-3 reference. "...that's not my game." Son, "your game" at 17 years old is not good enough for Bama, Clemson, or USCe.

SOS's job day one -- have that kid knocked on his butt so that he wakes up and realizes that he has some growing to do.

I agree.
I was never on the Clowney bandwagon to start with.....my feeling was basically...if we get him....fine...if not...oh well....Not a big deal either way. We all know the character demonstrated by our elite players since Sabans arrival and its hard for me to see some of the things Clowney said being said by Mark Ingram for example. I read another article that stated Clowney wasnt on time for one visit ( by South Carolina I think ) because he was getting his hair done. While this this may not rub alot of people the wrong way, it tells me alot. I dont question his athletic ability at all.....but I would have concerns about attitude towards team play and effort. The attitude displayed by Karlos Williams could be why Saban didnt go after him hard....just a guess....but ya never know. Id rather have a good athlete with a great attitude than an excellent athlete with a poor attitude. He could very well end up with an excellent career at USC....and if so, thats great.

I whole-heartedly agree with you, however, I'd bet you a month's salary Thayer asked specific questions for the sake of making him look stupid. I will admit, it probably wasn't that difficult. This is the same guy that wrote an article about a Texas recruit a few years ago and said in the original article he was at the kid's house for Christmas dinner or something like that. When the family spoke up and said it wasn't true, when questioned Thayer said "what I meant was she (the mother) was feeding me hate over the phone." Give me an F'N break.

I'm not defending Clowney. He shouldn't have said stuff about the women, certainly shouldn't have insulted a coach you also say you almost committed to. He should have known better, but so should Thayer. Sometimes a bad piece about an athlete is just about the athlete. Sometimes you have an immature athlete spouting off at the mouth to a douche-bag of a reporter--and that would be the article posted here.

On a side note, Clowney should feel thankful that USCe rolls off Bama's schedule this year so his only shot at having to face a 300+ lb pissed off o-lineman that feels the need to defend his coach is in Atlanta. I wouldn't want to come to Tuscaloosa for a game and still face the possibility of having to face the music in the SEC Championship game. I doubt any of the coaches will say a word about it but statements like that will stick in a player's mind.

Glad someone posted this article. I posted back in early December that he would pick USC due to us not running a 4-3. He all but said it to the local paper when preparing for the Shriners game here. But everyone replied to me that that wouldn't make a difference. The kid is pretty arrogant, but can afford to be. I really disagree with some of his comments regarding our coach though. Not classy at all...

I was wrong, I thought he would sign with us. I won't say that I'm glad he didn't sign with us, but I'm not heart-broken that he didn't. I do know that Jadeveon not signing with us doesn't break our class nor would hsi signing have made our class.

The one thing that troubles me about Jadeveon is all of the disrespectful crap he said about CNS. I think the "he's a 17 year old kid" excuse is getting old and just isn't a good one. I remember getting recruited for hockey and baseball and I never said anything disrespectful about anybody nor did any of the other kids being recruited in my class. I think people like to chalk up stupidity to the age, but to me if you show that much ignorance at 17 then it's a pretty good bet you're going to show that much ignorance when you're 27.
