Some of you will remember that name. The Peaches to Logan Young's Herb.

Who are the villains now? No more Logan Youngs, Roy Adams, Bobby Lowders? We need villains.

When sanctions were announced, most focused on the "staring down the barrel of a gun" comment by much loathed Thomas Yeager. What I remember more than that was the fact that Roy Adams knew what the sanctions were before the NCAA read them. He was a corrupt old fart but had obvious connections.

There a guy I know that passed away a couple of years ago...old enough of a guy that he could tell stories going back to the Ears Whitworth era. One of the things he mentioned in his last few weeks was he'd had the privilege to see Bryant build what he did, Stallings return the program to the national spotlight, and of course seeing dominance again under Saban. Imagine that for a second...seeing three different eras, three different title runs.

Now, on the flip side of this...

After all the efforts already mentioned in this thread what did Adams see with his beloved UT program in his last years? Eight in a row.

I almost feel bad saying this...likely very inappropriate. Adams will soon be six feet under...which is the same state we've seen the UT program over the last eight years.

What strikes me about his passing is how it's being covered in the news. His dealings with athletes (paying money, giving cars, giving clothes, etc.) is being reflected on...almost romantically. But, when this same group was covering Logan Young, he was a cancer to college football. Yet, both guilty of doing the same thing.

Why is Adams getting this type of remembrance? You probably remember the name Geoff Calkins from the Commercial Appeal in Memphis. Check this blurb from an article this week:

Which brings me back to that last appearance at the Touchdown Club. Adams couldn’t even make it through. His kidneys were failing. He had to be helped to his car. After he had gone, one of his friends handed me an envelope.

There was $100 inside. A crisp, $100 bill. I may have been the last person on earth to get the equivalent of a $100 handshake from the man. So today, I’m going to donate the money to the Church Health Center in his name. I figure Adams would be pleased
(And, for an interesting read, check out this NY Times article on how he skirted the NCAA with some of his dealings [like Rudd.])
