When the numbers don't support your opinion, perhaps it's time to rethink your opinion?
There's one of the four statistics that say LSU is better than Alabama in the major defense categories--run defense. And the gap there is negligible and arguable.
There's a two touchdown difference between the two teams in scoring defense: 10.8 allowed vs 23.5 allowed. Bama.
There's a 35 yard difference, per game, in passing yards allowed with more attempts against Bama and a higher completions allowed. Bama.
There's a 35 yard difference, per game, in total defense as well. Bama.
Now, back to the run defense. LSU is allowing 96.5 yards per game, Bama 98.75. But there's the big catch: LSU has given up three touchdowns on the ground, Bama hasn't allowed a single one. (Three TD's vs under three yards. Fair to call it a wash?)
Opponents in the red zone. Bama hasn't let opponents in as much as LSU and doesn't allow them to score as much as LSU. Bama/Bama.
Interceptions: Bama has five. LSU has two. Bama.
LSU has two more tackles for loss as well as two more sacks through four games. LSU/LSU.

It doesn't fit, Mike.
And, for what it's worth, you'll find LSU and Bama above Georgia in just about every category as well.
