Don't know how many Star Wars fans there are here but here goes...

First off,if you haven't heard, Disney bought all of Lucasfilm from George Lucas last year. They are planning to do the next trilogy starting with ep. 7 coming out in 2015. The director is J.J. Abrams.

Star Trek Into Darkness helmer J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII for Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm, reports TheWrap. The site says that Ben Affleck was also in contention.

Back in November, Abrams commented on the possibility of him directing and it sounded like it wasn't happening:

"Look, Star Wars is one of my favorite movies of all time. I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. I was never a big Star Trek fan growing up, so for me, working on Star Trek didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more then anyone to the next iterations of Star Wars, but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!"

TheWrap adds that Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy has been courting Abrams for the director's chair for a while.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015. Michael Arndt is writing the script. Disney and Lucasfilm are planning a new trilogy with a new movie coming every other year.

BTW the same guy that did the script for both The Empire Strikes Back as well as Return of the Jedi is doing it for Episodes 8 & 9.

Lawrence Kasdan, writer of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and Simon Kinberg will write and produce Episode VIII and Episode IX.[76] The Hollywood Reporter subsequently reported that Kasdan and Kinberg would be working on future Star Wars projects, but not necessarily on Episode VIII and Episode IX. It was also reported that Disney would release Star Wars films "every two to three years".[

Womp womp. Yeah I am super nervous about this move. I was a Star Wars nerd growing up (okay, still am), a loyalist to the original 3 films. I wonder if the new films will be based on the books that came out about the post-Episode VI universe.

Word is these will not be based on the books but rather all original according to the outlines that Lucas had already drawn up for them years ago.

Ooh, interesting. I like JJ's work (though he needs to tone down the lens flares!) so I will probably end up going to see them.

Count me as someone who's actually excited about it. People will need to keep an open mind about it.

As long as there is no Jar Jar, I will be a happy lass! :tennis:

BTW, the cast list has been released.

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

The only names I am familiar with other than the returning cast are Andy Serkis and Max Von Sydow. I'm guessing Andy will do something in motion capture since a lot of his major work is thru that. Max could be the main baddie of some sort.

Definitely not. It has been declared that everything not in the theatrical release movies or the Clone Wars TV show to be non-canon. Anything released new going forward will be canon. There may be elements from the Expanded Universe present in the new stuff and some of it may be exactly the same but it only counts if it is in the new stuff.

Interesting. I used to read some of the EU books. I particularly liked the Solo family stories.

I'll watch it, but I'm not a big fan of Star Wars in general. Liked the first one of the prequel and Clone Wars. The last one was "meh" outside of the fight scene with Anakin and Obi.

Would like to see a movie from the perspective of a clone, and have it super analyzed.

Here's an idea of what I'm getting at

Episodes 1 and 2 were a little heavy on special effects and didn't really background the original movies. Episode 3 was easily the best of the prequel to me, and provided some background for the movies in the original trilogy. None of these were intellectually demanding, but old fashioned movies in that you left the theater feeling entertained rather than drained.

Harrison Ford was injured today on the set of the next Star Wars film and is currently in the hospital receiving care, reports Variety. Ford reportedly sustained the injury while filming on Wednesday and is currently hospitalized in London; The Hollywood Reporter later noted that Ford's injury was a broken ankle. The incident isn't expected to slow the film down, however, as shooting is expected to continue while Ford recovers. That said, there's no timetable for exactly when the 71-year-old Ford will be ready to pick up his role as Han Solo, a character expected to play a major impact in the film despite Ford's age.

It's not clear how Ford was injured yet, either, though Variety editor Marc Graser tweeted that he was "injured by the door of the Millennium Falcon." Here's hoping the iconic fighter ship doesn't injure any other cast members as shooting continues.

Lucasfilm has provided the following statement on the situation to Entertainment Weekly:

Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates.

Ow ! I wonder how this is gonna affect production down the line. His scenes they will have to wait to film.

I read about that this morning. I don't think it will slow down production too much.

On that note, did you see where the Twilight guy, Robert Pattison, is being rumored to take Ford's place in both series, Star Wars and Indiana Jones?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please tell me this is a bad joke.

It's just a rumor (nothing more) that has been going around. It's been floated more for the Indiana Jones series than the Star Wars series. This guy did Twilight; his sentence should be Hollywood exile.
