šŸ“” Staff additions/changes: Reports: Craig Kuligowski hired as defensive line coach

Four first round picks since 09... Yeah, good hire.
With names like Sam, Richardson, Ealy, and Ray to his credit since Mizzou joined the conference, it is a phenomenal hire.

Great coach, good recruiter. Very excited to see the product he develops with UA talent and depth.

Feels good getting a tough as nails, rust belt, Pole on the Def staff; bit of nostalgia for old school football. It's what all football needs.

From my understanding he is a meh recruiter. He is a great DL coach and talent developer though. So, we will just let the rest of the staff do most of the crutin.

I guess he goes by Coach Kul and not Ski.

Too bad, was hoping he'd embrace the Ski and he could evolve to be the "Chessmaster" like his Polish uncle Adam.

Now, I guess it's Kul (*sp) the Conqueror at best

:dunno: Mizzou is a Meh recruiting area, which is where he spent a lot of time. He was a top 7 ACC recruiter at Miami in 2017, so maybe that's something.

I do know he produced some mean DLs without great talent

One area in which Kuligowski struggled was recruiting. He missed on several targets this past cycle, which was more noticeable due to the many departures from the roster to graduation and the NFL. Even with that being the case, Kuligowski is unquestionably one of the best coaches and talent developers at the DL position in all of football, so his departure will be felt by the Canes.
A (relative) lack of recruiting prowess makes him an interesting add to Saban’s staff on the heels of the Tide losing the firm grasp they’ve had on the No. 1 recruiting rankings. To be clear, Alabama’s stranglehold on the sport probably isn’t letting up as long as Saban’s in charge, but it’s a thing to note in the broader context of the staff Saban’s trying to build.

The talent base available to Kuligowski at Alabama is much better than at Missouri and similar to that at Miami. Either way, he’s proven he can work with whatever you give him to craft a great DL.

I haven't bothered to look up who he's recruited or where he's recruited. Who he signed or didn't sign? I've not looked that up.

That said, I'm cautious about believing that first paragraph. That snippet was a copy and paste from aSBNation.com article written by Richard Johnson (imagine his childhood.) He pulled that snippet from StateoftheU.com which is a fan blog on SBNation. While I'm not familiar with that Miami blog I am familiar with SBNation. It's not a site where we're looking at "boots on the ground" with the vast majority of their sites--it's fan based content.

(Just as a side example of accuracy here...SBNation site says their coach is there for the long haul and he's fired 12 hours later.

)

Last night I noticed a few comments about his recruiting being "sub-par" on Twitter--all the tweets from fans, again.

We've also seen fans, Bama fans mind you, talk about how poor Dunbar was at recruiting. Yet, in this very thread, we see mention of what kind of impact Kuligowski will have on players like Buggs--a Dunbar recruit.

Is he going to be the best recruiter Bama has in its staff? I doubt it due to some very good recruiters already on staff. However, I'm very cautious about buying "he's a poor recruiter" based on a SBnation blog and a few fans commenting on Twitter. Especially when I see people who cover recruiting for a living describe him as a good recruiter.

He very well may be the best recruiter on staff but we are going to see Bama fans pick him apart. Bet. Golding was considered a good recruiter and I'm already seeing people tear him apart and he's been in Tuscaloosa what...three weeks now?

Charlie Partridge is the current odds on favorite to be the next defensive line coach at Alabama
I was just clearing out a few emails and noticed one that ended up in my spam folder which said that Partridge and Kuligowski were the last two names on Saban's list as of yesterday morning.

Point being ... either one of these guys would have been a good hire.
