Mainieri won the national title at LSU the same year Saban won his first at Bama. His team was runner-up for the title when Saban's team won it in '17.

The two years after he won the title at LSU, UofSC won back to back national titles ('10, '11.)

And yet...UofSC at the bottom of the SEC right now. It just goes to show sometimes a great coach can be a bad fit.
