for both the bowl game and next year... it will be exciting to watch a green QB take the reigns of a potentially great offensive unit.

watching McElroy throw the long ball like it's nothing and the progress Star has made in practice get me excited.

i wonder if we'll see more of GMac in the bowl game with maybe less of a lead than we would in a season game?

That is exciting for some reason. I'm sure McElroy will start next season but I'm intrigued a little by S. Jackson.

I've seen McElroy throw one good pass in relief. So, I hope others have seen things in his game that I can't see! Otherwise, the QB spot could be a bit disappointing next season.

That's probably better worded by saying, "You remember one good pass in relief."

He did a good job with not only his passes, but how he ran the offense against WKU and MSU. I saw some beautifully thrown balls in both games.

Most probably will end up remembering the breakdown in the route against Arkansas where he threw the INT...so, you remembering the fade route against Auburn is A-OK with me! :D

I see us next year being like LSU this year..........Nooooo not 7-5.

Tony Barhart said it best at the beginning of the season. If LSU just gets decent QB play they will be tough to deal with. It is obvious they didn't get decent play from the QB slot. Too many int's cost them several games. We will be in a similar situation in the fact that we will be loaded with skill players around the QB. If Reuben Randle commits (and I am praying to God in heaven that he does) that will give us some one as physical and tough as Julio on the other side of the field. Couple that with the plethora of RB's we have and it makes for a difficult situation for opposing defenses. That makes McElroy or Jacksons job a lot easier.

While QB play is always important...I don't see it being nearly as important as it has been to us in the past. Granted JPW was an absolute general on the field for us this year and I truly believe we lose to LSU without him.....Next year I think we will be the favorite for the West and Mc or Jackson either one will be able to run this offense with little to no fall off between players coming into the game. For the first time in a long time we will start to see depth at almost every position.

We face three problems on offense IMO.

First, we will need to retool the offensive line, what with Caldwell and Marlon Davis graduating and Andre's likely departure for the NFL. Granted there will be talent at those positions from returnees, redshirts and recruits, it will take a little time to piece it all together.

Second, we need to upgrade ourselves at the wide receiver positions. Julio is a great one, but we need a threat on the other side that can regularly beat single coverage. Kelly or Randle either one would be a nice fit. Both would be exquisite.

Third, we need to develop whichever QB emerges so that he can at least not get us beat, though hopefully he will reach the help us win level.

I am not as concerned about tight end. Even though Walker and McCall are leaving, there is plenty of talent at that position.

Our defense could be devestatingly good. If we resolve these issues reasonably well, we can contend for the NC next year.

I am sure I heard wrong but a sports radio host said Arenas would not be back next year? I hope he has his information wrong.

My biggest concern is the OL. I feel confident in our QB's..surprisingly.

When was the last time an NFL team drafted a punt returner? ;scr

Let's go over pronunciation. Is it Mc-El-roy or Mc-Elroy?

There will be a lot of: "Will Star push for the starting spot?" I will go ahead and state my opinion of not likely, but competition only makes them better.

I agree with psychojoe on this one. Our breaking in potentially 3 new linemen is of a greater concern than our QB situation in my mind. I think McElroy will be called upon like JPW this year to manage the game and not have to carry the team on his shoulders. Losing 3 solid linemen (2 AAs) will be tougher to replace.

Thats what I was wondering, but he clearly said Arenas would not be rerturning next year. Which he is somewhat an Auburn fan and claims next year will be rough since we will have quarterback problems...

Could be wrong, but wasn't David Hester for the Bears drafted as a return specialist?

wait, won't we lose 4? i thought only Drew Davis returns while the rest are gone (assuming Smitty leaves early).

Yep, but he played in the NFL as a back-up defensive back, before moving to the offensive side of the ball.

The barn had QB problems this season, so they assume we will after JPW graduates. The problem for them is, we have 4 QB's on campus that would have started for Auburn this year.

I have said it before, we will have a bit of adjustment with new offensive linemen, but the drop off will not be as much as some are predicting. Our OL will still be among the best in the conference.

At QB, McElroy will be a Junior, not a frosh trying to compete in a new system with a supporting cast of ineptitude. He will have two full years under Saban, and Coach Mac is a great QB developer. With Coffee, Upchurch, Ingram, and the rest of our RB's -including Richardson, McElroy will not be asked to do more than he is capable of. He has a better skill set than JPW, just less experience. Star will get significant PT. We will be fine.
