Mt. Cody has played a total of 3 games, none of them in the SEC. Granted, he's a big fella, strong, and from what I hear agile. Luigs is the best center in the nation, so I think it's a bit premature to say he's gonna get "killed." Luigs obviously isn't gonna push Cody around, but he's gonna "kill" him with footwork and technique. I'm sure there will be plays where Luigs is called upon to handle Cody one-on-one and I think he'll be more than able to handle is own. Neither player is gonna dominate the other though.
A couple of thoughts here...
Yes, he's played 3 games. But, he's already showing up on early NFL draft projections after 3 games.
"None of them in the SEC?" Yet, he's practiced against one of the best OL groups, C and G combinations, and they can't block him all the time despite a double team. All SEC, mind you.
"Luigs is the best center in the nation." He won the Rimington Award, yes. IF he didn't have McFadden and Jones in the backfield last year he wouldn't not have gotten as much attention as he did and very likely would not have won the award either. I know, he's a good C. I know, Antoine Caldwell is just as good.
All the footwork and technique a C can muster isn't going to apply very often when he's flat out bull rushed. Especially now that you have switched to a passive zone blocking scheme.
I can appreciate loyalty to a player on the team you support. I question rational thought processes when anyone says their center can handle Cody one on one. The most talented offensive linemen Clemson had was their C. He, along with a G couldn't handle his pressure. WKU, with 3 blocking, couldn't stop him from tackling a player in the backfield.
All that said...
Understand, we are not going to be using a lot of our blitz packages against Arkansas this week. First and foremost, we are going to stop your running game. Secondly, we are going to keep the screens and quick routes in front of our LB'ers. Most importantly, we are going to put this game in the hands of Casey versus our secondary. With your leading receiver being a freshman, not a proto-typical SEC receiver at that, it just doesn't bode well for your passing game.
