Hey our defense finally has some starters back, so maybe they can actually....play defense? We'll see tomorrow, I'm excited about this game.

Fair enough, FWIW I didn't predict a blowout.

Mt. Cody has played a total of 3 games, none of them in the SEC. Granted, he's a big fella, strong, and from what I hear agile. Luigs is the best center in the nation, so I think it's a bit premature to say he's gonna get "killed." Luigs obviously isn't gonna push Cody around, but he's gonna "kill" him with footwork and technique. I'm sure there will be plays where Luigs is called upon to handle Cody one-on-one and I think he'll be more than able to handle is own. Neither player is gonna dominate the other though.

A couple of thoughts here...

Yes, he's played 3 games. But, he's already showing up on early NFL draft projections after 3 games.

"None of them in the SEC?" Yet, he's practiced against one of the best OL groups, C and G combinations, and they can't block him all the time despite a double team. All SEC, mind you.

"Luigs is the best center in the nation." He won the Rimington Award, yes. IF he didn't have McFadden and Jones in the backfield last year he wouldn't not have gotten as much attention as he did and very likely would not have won the award either. I know, he's a good C. I know, Antoine Caldwell is just as good.

All the footwork and technique a C can muster isn't going to apply very often when he's flat out bull rushed. Especially now that you have switched to a passive zone blocking scheme.

I can appreciate loyalty to a player on the team you support. I question rational thought processes when anyone says their center can handle Cody one on one. The most talented offensive linemen Clemson had was their C. He, along with a G couldn't handle his pressure. WKU, with 3 blocking, couldn't stop him from tackling a player in the backfield.

All that said...

Understand, we are not going to be using a lot of our blitz packages against Arkansas this week. First and foremost, we are going to stop your running game. Secondly, we are going to keep the screens and quick routes in front of our LB'ers. Most importantly, we are going to put this game in the hands of Casey versus our secondary. With your leading receiver being a freshman, not a proto-typical SEC receiver at that, it just doesn't bode well for your passing game.

I didn't hear Cody's name mentioned too much after pregame...because Luigs handled him well all day. That was the only thing worth watching, the rest of it sucked. It was to be expected though, by the time y'all roll thru here in 2010 we'll be ready for you. Good luck to you the rest of the year.

Go back and watch the game again if you can stomach it. Luigs held him well for the 1st quarter and then there was a double team on him him the rest of the game. He also was pivotal in that goal line stand in the 2nd quarter. Luigs got eaten alive.

An uninformed hog as usual.

Luigs did NOT handle Cody well "all day." Cody did not play as much as normal because threw the ball so much, so all day is out the window. We play another NT when we need a lot of pass rush. He still managed 2 tackles in limited time - solid from an interior lineman.

Secondly, I would hardly consider going 4 and out from inside the Bama 1 yard line "handling." Cody was the reason you did not get in the endzone. Luigs really "handled" him.

Cody was not "handled" one on one at all. When you doubled him, it helped, but he still stuffed the middle - his job in our defense.

And for the record, Cody said Luigs was good...but not as good as Bama's all-SEC center Antoine Caldwell.

I've watched this game a few times since Sat. and I saw Jonathan hold his own a few times...saw him get driven back like a tackling sled a few times as well.

The point of this whole conversation about the match-up was whether or not Cody would require a double team. He did the majority of the game. The second thought was whether or not he could clog up the middle. To that, there is no doubt.

One thing you may have not noticed, and if you get the chance watch the game again and pay attn. to it, is Cody's backup, Chapman, required double teams as much as Cody.

There isn't a drop off at all when we inter-change those two.

We'll see you in Tuscaloosa next year.

You'll see the same defense as well...literally, with the exception of one player, the same guys on defense.

He is one chop block away from sitting on the sidelines with Saban.

thats what one of the ppl on that site said, very classy.

It's sad that some people think that way. Let's just hope the players on the field don't EVER stoop so low as to actually injure a person on purpose.

Sore losers, lol Luigs was pancaked the first play. Cody was a plug in the middle the entire game as was Chopper. Get over it Arkansas.
