🏈 So are we insulted by our fanbase nicknames?

I never really understood that. We call Auburn fans Barners(a reference that brings their sexual preference with livestock into question in my mind) and have various names for their school. We do similar things with other schools as well.

But for some reason, when we get insulted its missing the impact. The most common is being called "gumps" and it goes completely over my head. Is that a reference to Forrest Gump? I dont know whats really bad with that association overall then.

Then I see references to UA as UAT. To this I think, "So?". UA has many sister schools not named Auburn University. The extra T just references the location, and again the taunt goes straight over my head.

I mean, you could call Auburn AUA, as opposed to AUG located in the attachment.

Speaking of which, im calling them AUA now.

But eh, really interested to know what people think about this.

Think the Barner nickname is a poke at them being an agricultural school and the choice of live stock.

Think the T might be a tech reference...as in a technical school.../shrug

Never gave the UAT comment too much thought. People can be so hateful behind a comp so I usual do not pay much attention to the name calling.

The Gump nickname seems to be a fav of LSU fans but never bothered me. Neither does Bammer.

Same here, but it doesn't bother me a bit.

I wonder how LSU folks feel about being called "corn dogs".

Yeah it doesn't bother me any. I usually call LSU folks 'coon asses' anyway but one of em tried to throw it back on me calling me racist and telling me how he wasn't black anyway. of course one of my black buddies jumped up and said 'it means ignorant cajun redneck u numbnuts. good job in proving that's what u r.' almost started a fight with that one :fight:

Living in Illinois, people just kind of look at me funny with my Bama shirts and i've heard the word redneck tossed around, but people have nothing to talk about here with the University of Illinois. All they really care about is the Chicago Bears.

I think the derisive nicknames are just stupid. Gump and bammer is mildly offensive at worst, and silly at best.

Some BYU fans call us "yewts" and sometimes "utards". Utah fans call BYU fans zoobs (in reference to mating rituals akin to those occuring at a zoo).

I'm glad they're around because it helps me identify who the idiots are without having to remember their actual arguments.
