🏈 Should Clemson erect another tombstone? This one for their playoff chances?

I gotta bring up your frustration with our schedule due to the teams we were getting at home for a number of years. Telling me you wouldn't be pissed if we played ten teams under .500? Or would you thump your chest about being 10-2 in those games?

When i speak of scheduling....i speakin terms of value for my money for tickets...
I am speaking in terms of value of going to games....spending a pirates treasure for those weekends...of value

We play who we play...but...i love competitive events... i love vs Tennessee....vs lsu...vs auburn...vs ole ms...etc

I go ...i have gone....to Western this or eastern that...because i love Bama football....
But when these were more than 50% of my tickets and value....i dont feel its money well spent....when we had 1 or 2 value games outta 12....

I guess thats where i am. Not a chest beater...regardless....
And yes. I was pissed with our scheduled OOC plus years we lined up with vandy...USCe....KY...etc.

I could have quit going...almost did...the "future scheduling." Kept me engaged

How is this the case when there were four home games in conference play and three OOC games in Tuscaloosa with those "Western ____" having a cheaper
Dont know what u mean.

....had 7 home games...3 were directional....42% of home games. ...
..... right off bat ...almost half were ....directionals
Quality opponents.....some fair...some not so much.....

And some of sec games...werent much better.....as results show
Some...incredible though...

Yeah...directionals may have had cheaper ticket prices....which was a small potion of a weekend cost in Tuscaloosa for football..... i averaged about 700$/weekend....regardless of opponent....travel/ parking/camping/food/ ms50+ .....etc

Now...dont get me wrong...i love going....i missed 3 home games in last 20 years....except for covid 2020 season.... that was some dedication....i think..
I did it. So i guess to me it was...to us

At times there were 4 home "directionals". Pre nick i think...or early nick...

You're making my point for me. College football as a whole is more expensive, not just Alabama. You're gonna pay the same amount for lesser opponents as you will prime ones. They simply allocate a value by opponent to justify the overall expense and share a baseline "face value". So, it's safe to say you would not pay the same and attend if we played a bunch of teams under .500. Why? Because it's not worth it. Just like hanging your hat on beating a bunch of underwhelming teams isn't worth it because it doesn't prove anything in the long run other than you were better than Duke, Boston College, Maryland at the time, NC State, Virginia, Wake Forest etc.

I think we are agreeing.

I agree. But that the conference Clemson is in.
Or Oklahoma back in 50s.

Or big 10 in 60/70s.

Just what it is. Doesn't diminish the Clemson championships. The ohio state or Michigan state championships. Or USCw Championships
Or Oklahomas incredible win streak

These aren't the same thing. That's the reason for my question earlier. It didn't make sense to me (first quote.)

You still have to win the games, no doubt. They dealt with "Clemsoning" for a long time and pushed that narrative, so there is value there.

You and their fans may not like it, but Michigan's Natty is diminished to me with all the illegal stuff they were caught doing. Ohio State's means less to me because they went and purchased a Natty. Have started talking about travel ball like this... it means zero to me that a bad ass 11U team goes and pulls kids from all over the Southeast or entire country. I mean, what does it mean to win a tournament simply because you found the best kids from all over, compared to growing, coaching, and buildinga team with more local kids? It's not impressive to me to bring a kid from California, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, and Iowa and win, over a team from Athens, Georgia placing 12 out of over 80 teams nationwide in a tournament. Winning is great, don't get me wrong, but you did nothing by having all the hand picked talent rather than coaching kids up to raise their game. I always talk about Saban's ability to find that two or three star and make him a first round pick.

Sorry, that got off the rails a bit with Ohio State's travel ball BS, but in the end it does not mean anything to me when a team beats nobody and then wants to claim Championship status. Look at Central Florida and their undefeated season. Do they deserve to be called Champions over us?

no matter what....you have to win the games....
if others are doing it.....then...the zero sum game is....
One will lose ...while .....other wins...or visa-versa

A thought crossed my mind last night.

We were watching Clemson and saw some good ball teams. The focus was on that team and their staff.

Then...

We were watching Dabo and saw some average ball teams. The focus has been on Dabo.

The change happened circa 2020: Covid.

We've discussed and agreed its effects on the players and their development. Are we overlooking the chance Covid was the final straw that broke Dabo's back? We've seen it with other adults in other professions.

I had been looking at May 2021 as my retirement date from teaching starting back in 2018. For me, COVID just confirmed my decision. I lost that fire and desire I had for it. Spending 2+ hours on a Zoom call/faculty meetings for 5 1/2 months pushed me to the edge. When we finally resumed our regular schedule in the Spring of ‘21, I was already counting the days and scheduling “sick” days each week until my final day. Dabo may have succumbed to COVID finally.

I offer an alternative to he's not a selfish, cheating prick and this? :ROFLMAO:

This gets funnier by the day. For years I've been saying "it's the Dabo Tigers" and now we see a list of his staff members experience.

The cherry on top is you think I don't like him. It's not that (though there is no way in hell I would have hung out with him when we were in school together. That family is certifiable.)

It crossed my mind when I saw how few on his staff were from outside of his little world in Clemson. Even those that aren't from Clemson are connected in one way or another. It's not a big deal until seeing how few. Even then ...

Jody Evans was coaching Tuscaloosa when Dabo was at Bama. Evans was a WR guy back then. Evans was a pull from the high school ranks.

Richardson, WR coach, has no collegiate experience. He was a high school guy from Rock Hill, SC. I think he was hired in '21. He definitely was already part of Dabo's circle.

We know Mickey. He didn't come from Clemson but he's one of the original staff members.

We've followed a lot of coaching careers. Few are as weird as his. It's probably the non-approved shampoo.

Ok. You dont like him. I get it.

You dont. Got it!!!!
I have no ill will towards Dabo other than his hands being involved in the probation period Bama received. I don't have any feelings toward him one way or another. Not being a person I want in my life doesn't automatically equate to someone I don't like. Not being a person I want anywhere around the Alabama program doesn't automatically equate to someone I don't like.

It does, however, translate to someone I don't respect. That applies to anyone, anywhere, who espouses "it's all about me."
