I've seen and heard this disscussion in other places, and thought I'd get it going here. Should the ban on beer sales at college games be dropped?

Personally, I think it should. It would increase revenue a lot.

I'm not for beer sales at a game. I've got a real hard time with people drinking and driving. Plus, there's nothing quite as annoying than being at a game with your family and having some drunk cussing and stumbling all over the place.

And yeah, I know, people drink before the games, but I still don't think schools should encourage drinking by selling beer at the games. Last time I checked, there was no real revenue shortage.

JMHO.

If everyone was responsible then yes, but we know that ain't happening.

I think dropping the beer ban would create more problems. There would be more drunks guaranteed, and it would make it harder for our children to enjoy it, with idiots that cant hold their liquor. I don't want my kids experience of a Alabama football game being some drunk, cussing, spilling beer, and creating a overall bad enviroment for them. Part of the whole experience to me, is bringing my young sons to a Bama game and them enjoying it and having a memory for a lifetime with each other. Not the memory of the drunk falling down and puking on himself.

Just my 2 cents.

It is hard enough for me to enjoy games now with the insufferable idiots that seems to find themselves within earshot of my seats, I can't imagine the horror I would face if alcohol sales were actually allowed. It would be an unbearable atmosphere, and like '66 said, it would not be a kid friendly environment for sure.

i thought they already did allow it, seems like everyone around me always has some sort of drink with them. Its the weirdest thing though, they seem to think that having it stuffed in their clothes keeps the drink cool or something

I never knew we sat so close together at the games. You should come by and say hi sometime this year. I usually don't get too bad until Bama falls behind.

So they don't allow kids at NFL, MLB, and NBA games? How about NASCAR events? I have taken my kids to NFL, MLB, and NASCAR events with no issues. Guess Atlanta is different world than Alabama.{sarcasm}

While I don't want to see beer sold at college football games is that the drinkers are already drunk enough when they come in, why help fuel it.

Also the flasks always make it in the stadium even in post 9-11 bag check era.

I've never been to an NBA or NASCAR event, but in my experiences, I have seen much less trash (in terms of people) at MLB and NFL games than I have a college football games (though I'm sure places like Talladega would be worse than a BAMA game). I think in most all cases, those venues have MUCH better security. There is no doubt in my mind that it would be a disaster for any SEC teams to allow beer sales. My thing is, I can take care of myself, but often times, kids would be the ones caught up into some undesirable situations.

Yeah its a whole different ballgame at any NASCAR race. That isnt a fair comparison. They have "family grandstand" sections where beer isnt allowed. So it just means you get slammed prior to the race!

I agree beer should not be sold at CFB games, but in a city where we have a franchise for every major sports league I am used to it.

Well, like you said, you can pretty much sneak a beer keg into Bryant-Denny if you wish... so as long as you can keep yourself from streaking across the field, you should be fine.

This is a place where people get an education. I have a few drinks all the time outside like around the strip and other places so drinking outside of the stadium is fine to me, but if you get some idiot who doesn't know his limit and is constantly going up getting beer after beer, you are bound to have problems. You would never sale alcohol at a high school game would you?

Well I would consider it a great idea to lift the ban on alcoholic beverages. I mean that basically for my own benefit, but if a bunch of idiots(Lets estimate maybe 5k of them) got drunk...they could ruin it for us. Not to mention there would be a lot more underage drinking, you can count on that.

Now we know - you're sloshed at the games. Were you the one who staggered out of formation during the halftime show and broke into Lonely Bull ? :D

Some people can drink responsibly and some just act completely insane after a few. The sad part is that everyone has to suffer from the few bad apples that can not drink and be civilized. On revenue, I went to a Chattanooga Lookouts game (minor league baseball) and drank a few beers. The tickets were $5 but after 4 beers and pizza for me and my wife we spent well over $50. I was told what I spent was nothing compared to a Pro baseball game in drinks and food. It brinks in great money to the school but just a couple of people that can not handle alcohol reasonably ruins it for everyone, just like many things in life (when it comes to laws and regulations).

Believe it or not I am not for beer being sold at the games. I do my drinking prior to the game and even if I am so tanked that I sleep on Porters shoulder, I am not one of the many "drunk coaches" we have in the stands who look like that have been wearing the same Bama shirt for 30 years.
If people we responsible when drinking then I may be for it, but for now I say no!

The Hawks and Falcons are still considered major?

I thought no one would ever see me Tim, but I guess performing in front of 90,000 people, you're bound to get caught. :p

LOL! I said a franchise for every major sports league. I in no way implied the teams themselves were major.

I say no as well, the last year that I had season tickets, there was a couple that got escorted out by the cops for being drunk and rowdy. But an elderly gentlemen had gone and gotten security on them and on the way out the drunk young guy smarted off to the elderly man and the elderly slad him across the face and the young guy wanted to hit him back but me and other folks stood up and he back down. Now that I take my kids to games I don't want them being around some drunk cussing and not respecting children that are in the stands, If it was just me their I wouldn't care, but if I have my kids then I care and adults should know how to act and respect parents that have kids there, I do cuss at times at work but I don't do it around my kids and other people's kids and I do drink a beer every now and then but not around kids.
