HOOVER | The SEC Network has big plans for its second year.
The cable network which isn't even a year old yet just 11 months in from launch in August 2014, plans to launch a new show called "SEC INSIDE" along with five new episodes of the fan favorite SEC Storied, a 30 For 30-style documentary series that focuses on the stories of the conference.
One of the five documentaries focuses on the life, death and legacy of University of Alabama Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas. "In Search of Derrick Thomas" airs Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. on the SEC Network.
The other four documentaries include: "Wuerffel's Way" (focusing on Danny Wuerffel's charitable organization), "Miracles on the Plain" (focusing on the end to Auburn's 2013 season), "The Bo You Don't Know" (focusing on former LSU coach Bo Rein) and "SAM" (focusing on former Missouri player Michael Sam).
The first documentary, "Wuerffel's Way," airs Sept. 1 with the next documentary following week after week.
Slive honored
Former SEC commissioner Mike Slive will be recognized for his contributions to the game of football at the end of the year, the National Football Foundation released Tuesday.
Slive will be honored with the Legacy Award at the 58th annual NFF Awards Dinner on Dec. 8 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. The award recognizes individuals and organizations who have "made extraordinary contributions to the NFF and/or embody its missions."
Slive retired as SEC commissioner earlier this year.
Spurrier on Stabler
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier was a quarterback at Florida at the same time Kenny Stabler was at Alabama.
Stabler, who passed away last week from colon cancer, left his mark on the game, Spurrier said.
"He was one of the all-time best and probably made his mark more as a pro, a little bit like Joe Namath," Spurrier said. "Namath was an excellent quarterback at Alabama, but his big years, Super Bowl years were in the NFL. Kenny's probably one of the best to ever play at NFL quarterback, no question about it.
"I was sad to read about that."
Watch list
Senior linebacker linebacker Reggie Ragland, senior center Ryan Kelly and junior defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson added to the growing list of Alabama players on watch lists Tuesday morning.
The trio were all named to the Rotary Lombardi Award watch list, given annually to the college lineman of the year.
