Stackhouse in talks with Vanderbilt, sources say

Jerry Stackhouse is in talks with Vanderbilt to become its next head coach, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Stackhouse, an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies, was the head coach of the Raptors 905 G League team for two years. He was named Coach of the Year after leading Raptors 905 to the title in 2017. His time in the G League helped build a relationship with Vanderbilt athletic director Malcolm Turner, formerly the president of the league.

Man, I loved Jerry Stackhouse as a kid. He was my favorite basketball player. His dunk against Duke still gives me chills. Him and then Vince Carter were my college heroes when I was little. Still have my pair of North Carolina authentic shorts I got for my birthday when I was like eight. They were $100. Not much today, but back then I begged my parents to make those my birthday and Christmas gift and I would even throw in my money. That's how bad I wanted to look like those guys in the driveway and at the gym as a kid.

As I watched VaTech in the tourney it was hard to believe Buzz would cut ties again and go southwest. I suppose there's no place like home. He reminds me of Curly Howard but he can coach basketball. The SEC got much better again. If Oats pans out, the SEC could be a great basketball conference. Even when LSU is paying for their sins. Not sure that's ever happened.

With the contract Houston has offered Sampson I bet he stays. If I'm not mistaken his daughter is employed by the University and his son is on the coaching staff.

Greg Byrnes pretty much slammed the door on going after the Kelvin Sampson's of college basketball. After Oklahoma and Indiana, he wasn't getting near Tuscaloosa. Nothing says NO like a 5-year show cause. Maybe R-Kansas thought it just wasn't worth it.

Fired B. Drew after only 3 years now they take a chance on a coach with no college experience? Especially with the current SEC coaching line up.
If it doesn't work how long will it set this program back?

What program? They lost every SEC game this year. Stallings and Vandy were a good fit and had the program rolling. 2 year's later and Stalling gets fired from Pitt. I believe I would have hired him back at Vandy instead of taking a flyer on Stackhouse.
