🏀 SEC Coaching Searches: Vandy- Jerry Stackhouse, A&M- Buzz Williams, Arkansas- Eric Musselman (Nevada)

Hot take, or bad take?

Saying that its their history but not tradition is pretty stupid IMO. That would be like telling an Alabama fan in 2006 that Alabama doesn't have rich tradition just because there wasn't a ton of recent success. They haven't been to the Sweet Sixteen since the Nolan era but they have been a consistent NCAA Tournament team that whole time since.

It matters. The administration remembers and I'm sure they are desperately trying to get back. Anderson was a desperate attempt to get back to the 40 minutes of hell. Unfortunately, that came from the fertile mind of Richardson and so did the talent he put on the court. In hindsight, Broyles sure didn't like Nolan speaking out about race and quickly pulled the trigger. Maybe he should have waited.

Wasn't his primary objection that he was winning national and conference titles, while Houston Nutt was putting out mediocre football and still getting big bonuses and contract extensions?

I don't recall it being the primary point of his anger, but it certainly was a part of the whole fiasco.

In a ironic twist of sorts considering the headlines we're reading today one of the things that angered Richardson was Arkansas signing a deal with Nike which in turn left Richardson without a shoe contract (he'd had one with Converse I believe.)

I vaguely recall him saying something along the lines of pay me and take my job in a presser and then a few days later they took his job.

To the degree it existed and I can't speak but I do know he saw/felt a racial element behind just about everything. That man was full of A LOT of anger. A LOT!

I want to say Broyles fired him the next day after he said that. I read a story that either ESPN or SI did on him a few years ago where he talks about how he was a ver, very angry person back then. Like he said that back then he had so much anger for Broyles that he wouldn't have spit on him if he was on fire and that it embarassed him that he had so much hate and anger inside of himself. John Thompson was quoted in it as saying that people wouldn't recognize him now that knew him back in the day. He said he still very much believes that a lot of what went down at Arkansas was race related but doesn't have the same anger he did.

@BamaBoyJosh, I recall reading that. I'm thinking we're likely talking about the same article. As I'm sitting here thinking back to that time I remembered one of the things that jumped out to me was the wording in his lawsuit against Arkansas. "White citizens," was it? It reeked of a racial tone.

One of the issues UCLA has run into during its coaching search, sources told ESPN, is its lack of charter flights. In a stark contrast to nearly every high-major program, the Bruins have always flown commercial, even in recent years under Steve Alford. The school began mixing in charter flights during Pac-12 play this season.

With offers like this they are going to turn someone's head.

Calipari had been in contact with UCLA about the school's open head-coaching position and had been offered $48 million over six years, The Athletic reported.

When you think about the NBA talent coming off of Kentucky you realize it's been a while since they've cut the nets. At this stage, I would have to say that Rick Pitino had the better program. I wonder how many great college coaches look back and wish they hadn't blown up what they had to pursue the NFL or NBA? I think the 2 guys who lost a pretty good chunk of their college legacy was Pitino and Spurrier.

Stackhouse in talks with Vanderbilt, sources say

Jerry Stackhouse is in talks with Vanderbilt to become its next head coach, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Stackhouse, an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies, was the head coach of the Raptors 905 G League team for two years. He was named Coach of the Year after leading Raptors 905 to the title in 2017. His time in the G League helped build a relationship with Vanderbilt athletic director Malcolm Turner, formerly the president of the league.
