They met at Briarcrest High School, back before either one of them had become a household name, back before "The Blind Side" and before the wins over Alabama and before the fame and the riches and before the fall.

Sean Tuohy coached the eighth grade boys basketball team at Briarcrest. Hugh Freeze coached the high school girls team at Briarcrest.

ā€œThey’d scrimmage us,ā€ Tuohy said. ā€œWe became friends.ā€

And that relationship explains why Tuohy isn’t going to join in the national pummeling of Freeze in the wake of the Ole Miss football coach's resignation for a ā€œpatten of personal misconductā€ that includes at least one call to an escort service.

ā€œI’m never going to stop being his friend,ā€ Tuohy said. "I’m never going to stop loving him. When he needs me, I’ll be there.ā€

I get loyalty as much as any, frankly, it's getting to be a rare commodity. But everyone is going to have to be careful right now with what's out there. Bjork was also a close friend and he demonstrated great loyalty to Freeze in the face of constant adversity and he suddenly bailed on him like his house was on fire. What's out there in scope must be very disappointing to Freeze's friends.
