🏈 Saturday's game; Who progresses? Who regresses?

He had a holding call that was declined in the first half and a false start in the 3rd quarter. He played A LOT more snaps than what you thought. Cam Robinson had 2 holding calls in the first half. Maybe he should be called out!

Cam has a body of work which includes being arguably our best lineman last season. If it continues to go south like Cyrus did after his freshman year, then I will indeed call him out.

I don't know if Ball is your bother, cousin, or internet crush, but I guarantee you if he has 2 more penalties next game he won't be playing "A LOT" of snaps from here on out

@Tidestalker, I don't have an internet crush or any affiliation with the kid. I'm guessing you must have something against him though. As for guarantees, are you Bobby Williams? You must be if you can guarantee any one of our TEs will or won't be playing for much longer! Ball and Greene are both two of our best blocking TEs.

As for Cam, he does have a body of work. BUT, he allowed at least one sack and was flagged for 2 holding penalties. No one is above being called out!

Dollars to donuts we're going to see a lot of people criticizing the secondary without taking into account the offense that MTSU fields.

Maybe, but their QB doesn't seem to have a strong arm and the ball really hangs a bit when he's throwing on the move or off-balance. A little pressure and I think we get three or four picks.

I will say when he steps into it, he's accurate, and he knows the offense because he's the head coach's kid and, even though he's a RS Freshman, this is his third year of school since he grayshirted, then redshirted.

RTR,

Tim

I think if they take the 5-7 yd crossing routes and the little "buttonhooks" they will have some success for a while. If they start trying to throw outs and deeper stuff then 3-4 picks is a distinct likelihood Also they throw to the backs a ton IIRC so look for the LBs to get a workout there.

The more I look at this game the more I see the value in it to seriously prepare for certain aspects of the OM offense. Nope the talent ain't close and nope they ain't got a Treadwell and nope the QB can't go vertical like Kelly but the value is there in the overall scheme I do believe.

I realize we're only through one week of play, but Stockstill is currently ranked #2 in the nation in QBR.

@It Takes Eleven Heck, Tim. I didn't even know the game was televised or I would have recorded it ...

I found a really crappy video of the portion of the first half before the wheels fell off for Jackson St. They are HUNH, pistol formation throughout, snapping it very quickly after positive plays, running the option off a motioning wing/slot as the pitch. Also saw an H-Back used to lead or trap when running the TB. The game was a clear mismatch between C-USA and SWAC talent.

Roll Bama Roll has a pretty decent breakdown on the MTSU defense.

It appears that MTSU will do more of what I thought Wisky would do and attempt to create havoc with undersize LB's shooting gaps.

I didn't realize Tyrone Nix was their DC. He will be nothing if not aggressive

Well that's either good news or bad news depending on how you look at it. Bad news because Reuben "heat-seeking missile" Foster pretty much sucked in covering the back out of the backfield against Wiskey. Good news because he'll get plenty of chances to work on getting better.

@Killer Instinct A running back versus a linebacker is a mismatch no matter which teams are playing, right?

That said, I'm curious. When you think of middle linebackers who are good in pass coverage, who comes to mind?

It seems to me saying "Foster pretty much sucked in covering the back out of the backfield" isn't a fair statement; short-sighted perhaps. The Tide defense (specifically interior linebackers) are big guys. They are meant as run stoppers or pass rushers; not pass defenders, per se'.

If I recall correctly @Killer Instinct, Foster was in coverage on a back out of the backfield 2-3 times and made the tackle each time for very little YAC. One completion that was around 12-15 yards was on a pick or rub route. CKS talked to him about his approach immediately following that catch as well. 250+ lbs covering 205-210 lb and 4.4 speed isn't easy and as @TerryP said, it is going to be a mismatch in coverage. Now if it is blitz pickup, Foster has the advantage.

Just another warm up game. Don't lose site of the prize. These are trap games that will challenge our team but not break them. We will cover the line and more. Hope to see more progress with the secondary. If coach takes out the first string in the third quarter you know we are set.
