There's another that isn't as well known but we do see his record pointed to from time to time. You've seen mention of the back-to-back-to-back national titles won by Minnesota back in the thirties. That team was coached by Bernie Bierman. He was at State at the same time Wade took Alabama to the Rose Bowl for their first title.
A side note: Bierman was one of the first inter-conference coaching changes seen when he left State to take over Tulane in the Southern Conference and while there also won back-to-back-to-back conference titles. In total, I believe Bierman is credited with five national titles. (cough, cough ... one of them in 1941.)
