šŸˆ Saban or Bear? Though Alabama fans squirm, answer may be simple

January 15th, 2016—Dodd, while appearing on 105 The Zone in Nashville, says he expects Kiffin to join the 49'ers as offensive coordinator and he was expecting it to be announced that day.

July, 2014—Dodd and Rick Nueheisel adamantly try to push the narrative the SEC's schedule is weak in November thus giving them an advantage versus other P5 conferences in the race to the national title game.

Wait, you're not asking for an opinion on Dennis Dodd, are you?

"...the answer may be simple."

"Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple." That's Dr. Seuss, folks. A bit ironic as well, right? After all, Dodd is a Ham with his college football reporting, more often than not he's found egg in his face due to his comments, and he's certainly green with envy.

But seriously, in my eyes this isn't even a question.

As a child I saw the success Alabama enjoyed under Bryant. As a college student, I saw the Tide re-emerge under Stallings winning another national title. Now, as an adult, I'm seeing the third run in my lifetime.

Three championship era's for Bama football. Three.

With all this success, all these championships, things have been too comfortable for too long. It's time to choose. With Nick Saban on the cusp of tying Bear Bryant's all-time record with his sixth national championship, a day of crimson reckoning is coming.

No. It's not time to choose. There is no choice. There is no question. There's a tremendous amount of satisfaction; a lot of pride.

I will tell you an argument worth entertaining. Has Dr. Witt done a better job parlaying the success of the athletic programs into a strong University than Dr. Rose? I'd say yes.

@TerryP , that is the best answer I've ever read to that "question".

Who is better - Lombardi, Bryant or Saban? The answer is YES. All great coaches for their times. Each took advantage of the talent they had and the era they coached in.
Pro that I would say Lombardi yes, I'm a big GB fan too. I don't know how you can put Coach Bryant and Coach Saban side by side. If Coach Bryant had what Coach Saban had today. I would give the edge to Coach Bryant. But, I guess I'm saying the same as you are OldPlayer.

You can look at it both ways. Saban has more physically gifted players as a whole but Bryant had more players total. Although as Terry pointed out, wgaf, they were both coaches for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, we win either way.

You right, we won. So how can we pick between the two.

What I love is what both coaches have done for the university (growth, stature), the state (pride, good will), and the players as men (maturity, success, manhood). I love all the stories from Bryant players on how he taught them to be men and made them successful in life. Now I begin to hear Alabama players say that about Saban, and these guys are maybe only 29-30 years max; I am sure the numbers of those giving testimonials will grow exponentially. I really am more grateful for what both coaches have done in those regards than the actual titles they brought, which have been amazing!

The debate on which one is better? It's always fun to debate, but what IS the point really? It's the same as asking if Patton was better than Lee, or if Washington was a better leader than Lincoln.
