🏈 Saban admits to Chewing Kiffin's ass

5-6years ago they always used Marquis Maze early on to stretch the edges. Now they do it with Ridley and Stewart. The ways it's done now may have expanded and evolved, but the principle is the same.

Loosen up the D. Make them defend horizontally. Then start running the ball after that.

Jet sweeps ... geez.

Can anyone tell me what jet sweeps to a 46? You know, the Bears front we saw from WKU this past weekend.

Isn't the 46 a man coverage scheme? That would require WKU to run their backers across the fromation and would/should open up counter play... but I'm not an expert so I could be wrong... no?

We've been over this before, people dont want to look at what the play action can do with the jet sweep with the backers and safeties overpursuing.
I know! I was the one who started bitching about people not seeing that movement last year! And damn it, the shit is under my skin, again! :computerdestroy:

In a sense, playing with six linebackers ... say six within striking distance from the line of scrimmage. Maybe ten with 10 yards. It was a lot like the base I remember seeing from the '85 Bears.

It was, essentially, ten players in a wider than normal box.

Saban made mention, after the game, that they were trying to force Alabama to do anything other than run.

And they got it, last year we only had two games with as many attempts as we had Saturday against WKU (42), the second and third game of the year against Middle Tenn and Ole Miss. 2014, it happened twice, both came later in the year, Western Carolina (88 offensive snaps) and LSU.

@Birdman37 Stepping outside of this thread just a tad ...

Based on what I've seen from Aranda and the type of athletes he's dealing with this season I can easily see him taking the same approach, even to the degree of that many guys, when Bama travels down there.

He's going to think it'll be confusing and in a sense he'll be right. WKU counted on the same approach if you think about the Saturday.

And he will be badly mistaken, if they go that route that late in the season Hurts is going to torch that defense.

An effective power run game opens up just as much. And is much simpler and easier to run, with less penalties, TIMING ISSUES, botched snaps, and fumbles.

Just a matter of taste. Do you like throwing backwards passes and flip jet sweeps to stretch the D... Or do you prefer a power run game to open up the perimeter and deep ball?

Y'all act like Kiffin's only option is to throw those pussy passes or flip it to a wide receiver running sideways. Maybe Birdman missed it, but we ran the same run/pass option play that Auburn ran across the LOS to beat us in the Iron Bowl a few years ago. Gus probably blew a wad in his khakis. But in the bigger picture, Kiffin ran every finesse play in the play book and still couldn't get the power run game together. Is that the OL, sure... Or maybe they just don't focus on that? Cause when they run a regular play, it looks f'd up against Western Kentucky.

More than 1 way to skin a cat... I've never said that what Lane does isn't effective. It should be, he's got all 4 and 5 star players... Should be able to call in a pizza order off that menu and get 5 yards. Just pointing out it's not what you'd picture the Alabama offense doing a few years ago... It's finesse football, period. Which works for him usually... Just like our other OC's that won championships had things that worked for them.

I agree that we're doing too much behind the LOS, and I think Lane Kiffin has way too much fun running cute plays with an athletic QB.
The one thing we've consistently not seen under Lane Kiffin is intermediate passing plays attacking the middle of the field. How many times have we seen a crossing route 20 yards downfield? We throw intermediate routes maybe just 1-2 times a game.
The other problem I have is our tendency to just pack up shop on offense when it's 3rd & 11+, and just go with a draw play, or WR screen - THAT's pussy ball.

Lane usually makes up for it with some clever playcalling in the passing game to get a guy wide open, but he's been really inconsistent as a play caller here. Every game he seems to go three & out 3 or 4 times in a row. Our offense often times has a feeling of not being able to get out of its own way. Then Lane calls some pass plays beyond 15 yards, and things start to loosen up a bit.
