🏈 Ryan Williams, back up RB for Va. Tech, injured today...

...in their scrimmage. It's an ankle injury. The severity of the injury is something I haven't found out yet.
Wow, that hurts!!. VTU is in trouble if the injury is important. Anyway, look at the incoming freshman David Wilson getting some reps on that rotation...

But bad news for them. And that say a lot about the toughness of such an undersized tailback...

RTR,

info on injury http://www.theroadtotampabay.com/blogs/vt/2009/08/22/scrimmage-notes-2/

Today, another running back joined the list of injured Hokie rushers when linebacker Barquell Rivers intercepted a pass and returned it down the sideline where he was tackled into Ryan Williams’ leg. Williams was not playing that down. The injury appeared to be minor but he did not return and was limping for the remainder of the game.

I recall reading that he's had ankle problems throughout his time at Va. Tech. It's the kind of thing that may give him problems all season.

This game could be turning out to be one of those "cant win for anything" games....If we win...I can hear it now...VT was not at full strength..blah..blah...Alabama played a team down on their luck...blah..blah....Regardless of the outcome, Bama may not get the respect of the polls. I wanted them to be at full strength...no excuses.

it will work itself out if needed.

Take this for what it is worth, but it is interesting if it indeed ends up being true.

It's a post taken from the Rivals.com Bama forum...

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td style="padding: 6px;" valign="top">VT's continued RB woes</td><td style="padding: 6px;" class="" 1="" align="right" nowrap="nowrap" valign="bottom">Reply</td></tr></tbody></table><hr color="#cccccc" noshade="noshade"> From a source pretty close to their program. TIFWIW but I lived in Roanoke, VA for a while and made some decent contacts while there...

This is not confirmed, and hasn't been made public yet, but people inside the program believe that Darren Evan's replacement, Josh Oglesby, does indeed have MRSA, and may miss the entire season as well.

That comes from good sources, but they say they aren't 100% sure. It is being kept very low key. You're more than welcomed to share that with your people, just keep my name out of it. This is news that will be public at some point, just isn't yet.

In layman's terms, MRSA is a staph skin infection. It's antibiotic resistant, and a strain of staph infection that is quite common today especially in locker room type environments.

Dang...that stuff can spread like the plague in an environment like that...and scary too. We had a high school kid in our area that was a bang up DE and he died from that a couple of years ago. Whole school system went into sterilization mode.

I don't know who the poster that put that message up is—absolutely no clue as to his credibility. So, I have no clue if this story is true or not. I HOPE it isn't and that has nothing to do with our football game with Va. Tech.

That's just a very, very serious medical issue if it is indeed the case.

Geez...here's to this being a false story and just a horrible rumor.

Most of the people I work with are VT grads and many are season ticket holders. I'll ask around at work tomorrow. See if any of them have heard anything. I hope neither medical condition is serious, especially the infection. Football is just not that important when compared to a kids health.

With that said, BAMA must win this. I have talked to much smak in the office about the inferior ACC and the over rated Hokies. I won't be able to stand the pain if BAMA L.... I can't even write it.

If I learn anything, I'll post again.

you will notice that you don't see Oglesby in the VaTech scrimmage stats yesterday - you will also see the comment that they expect Oglesby to be back to full contact tomorrow - this was at the end of scrimmage.

That being said, I found this that seems to imply the infection happened 5 days ago, based on the date of the entry "18 AUGUST 2009 | 4:21 PM" --> http://hamptonroads.com/2009/08/hokies-camp-2009-volume-21-random-tidbits-edition

TRAINER MIKE GOFORTH

ON RB JOSH OGLESBY SITTING OUT PRACTICE COMPLETELY AGAIN, WHETHER THAT’S TO REST HIS HAMSTRING: “He’s dealing with a little infection in his foot right now. It popped up yesterday. He had a blister and it got infected. I’m concerned about it, yeah, but I don’t know (what kind of infection it is). It’s in his heel. He just got an infection. We’ve all got bacteria in our body. Infections can occur in sterile environments. The doctors have got him on antibiotics. Just going to keep it clean and rest him. When it clears up, it clears up.”

SO IT’S NOT FOR THE HAMSTRING THAT HE’S OUT THEN: “Well for both, really. I don’t want to take any chances.”

ON HOW LONG OGLESBY WILL BE OUT: “I couldn’t tell you.”

ON THINGS LOOKING ENCOURAGING FOR FRESHMAN RB DAVID WILSON: “Oh yeah, he’s getting better every day. He’ll scrimmage Saturday. I’m pretty sure of that.”

ON WILSON HAVING A GRADE 1 STRAIN OF HIS SHOULDER JOINT, AND WHETHER PLAYING WITH IT COULD CAUSE IT TO BECOME A MORE SEVERE GRADE 2 OR 3: “There’s always a chance of that, but I don’t think that’s really a big concern.”

ON THE REST OF THE TEAM: “Good to go, knock on wood.”

I thought this was worth calling out too.

Now you can see why Frank Beamer made the uncharacteristic proclamation last week that he expects this to be his best punt block/return team ever. The four guys in the middle trying to rip through and get hands up for a block average 6-foot-4 and about 220 pounds – and all are extremely fast and athletic.

“I think we’ll have our best punt block and return team this year - we call it Pride and Joy. Because, we’re planning to have Marcus Davis there, Xavier Boyce there, Boykin there, D.J. Coles may be there - and these are all 6′2″, 6′3″, 6′4″ guys that are athletic and blocking kicks. You know, the faster you can get from here to there and then, if you got some long arms to reach out there - you’ve got a chance to block kicks. And then, those guys block people in open space all the time at wide receiver and that’s where punt returns are. So, I fully expect to have our best Pride and Joy team ever here at Virginia Tech.”
this is a quote from Coach Frank Beamer during media days.

Considering Vanderbilt, who finished in the middle of the pack in the SEC last year, beat their conference runner-up I'd say you have room to talk a little smack. Of course, there's Clemson...

Thanks Mike, I'll look forward to hearing back from you if you find out anything.

what are yall talking about?? Olgesby will be back at practice on Tuesday as we dont have practice tommorow. All our running backs will be at full strength (besides Evans) this coming week. O and its nice to see some alabama homers already calling a pounding. two words. tyrod taylor.
