🏈 Robbie Green is participating in off-season workouts with the team...

Saban mentioned something about him the other night at one of his charity events. He didn't dwell a lot on Brandon other than mentioning kids deal with both academic and behavioral issues while in his situation.

The tone conveyed to me, from a few in attendance, didn't sound like they felt we'd see him. Heck, most still feel the same way about Robbie.

I posted this note because I noticed a few other web-site owners/admins/mods were posting yesterday he was still suspended after a barrage of questions across the web. Bottom line, he's working out.

Here's hoping he keeps his head on straight. I don't want to see him work himself back into the rotation well enough to where we can actually count on him only to have something come up and we are scrambling.

FWIW, even if he hadn't been suspended, I have my doubts he would have passed Saban's three studs and his JUCO in the backfield. Heck, I wonder if he'd see the STAR position other than with the 2's.

Green getting himself in a fix may have hurt us a little last year, but with Barron, Lester, Lowery, Willims and Perry back there we are much better placed if he acts up again. Green will really have to hump it to get any PT with this group. Maybe he would see a little time in the dime package.

Joe, Saban made the comment back at the end of spring camp that we had between 9-12 guys that would contribute in our secondary this fall. Hell, he said we have five starters if that tells you anything...and he wasn't talking about opening in a nickel.

Your list is only half complete. :nana:

Well, I was just talking safeties, but throw in Kirkpatrick, Menzie, Milliner, Fulton and Jones (I heard he had a great spring) and it is clear we are stacked in the secondary. Adding Green gets us to 11, not sure who would be no. 12.

I dont know about u guys but i think this is some of the bigger news of the off season. I dont look at our secondary as being stacked at all. Our starters are good but we need depth. Robbie wil be a great asset back there if he can keep it together. We really need him

You've missed in this one my friend.

I don't look at it as big news because I have my doubt he can make a serious move up the depth chart in a matter of a few weeks. One plus with Robbie is he was able to pick up Saban's system on defense more quickly than others giving him a bit of a advantage over some. Some.

Saban said just before the conclusion of spring camp we had between 9-12 guys who could contribute today in our secondary. He hinted he was leaning towards his three studs with our JUCO taking the other corner. He also said he has five guys that are legit starters.

That's practically three deep before we get our new guys on campus.

Just as something else to add...

We've got 18 of our top 22 tacklers back from last year. That's a little depth there as well...

Heck, we are at 85, practically—maybe all—all Saban's recruits.

I can't think of a position right now with a depth issue.

I guess wel see how deep we are when we face a good passing team. South carolina spanked us last year with a qb tht isnt spectacular. I look forward to some surprises from the secondary. The linebackers i am excited bout. They carried our d last year.

I'm more of the opinion we spanked ourselves last season in Cola.

Both lines got beaten. Hell, GM was sacked what, seven times in that game?

I'm not taking a damn thing away from Garcia that game. He completed 85% of his passes. You have a QB putting up those stats, with three TD's to boot, it's going to be hard for any team to win that game.

I'll still stay in the position I'm in jd. If I hear Saban, Pruitt, and especially some of the players I've spoken with talk about the improvement they've seen in the secondary and how we'll do back there...I'm not worried, but anxious to see them on the field.

OH, don't get me wrong. We'll still give up a couple of big plays per game. That's a given with Saban's defense. It's going to happen against good teams.

Also, that's not even mentioning Alshon Jefferey and some of the circus catches he was making.

No kiddin'! There were a few plays we had good coverage with as well...

There were SEVERAL plays where Dre was covering him like a damn blanket and he still pulled off the catch, hell I remember one play where Dre damn near molested Jefferey, interfered and all trying to make sure he didnt make the catch but dude still came down with it. When you're on...you're on. Garcia will never likely play a game like that again either.

And I know alot of ppl dont put too much stock in analysts and everything round here but Im currently reading Phil Steele's preview of the upcoming season and he has Bama's DB's (and Linebackers as well and D-Line #3) as number one in the country by a large margin. In fact in the little blurb he actually says "this blurb is by far the longest of any single position because simply the gap between #1 (Bama) and #2 is that big in my opinion". By the way this is the same dude that said he simply didnt think Alabama could repeat last year because of the losses on defense and the unreal schedule and then got destroyed by Alabama fans afterward for making that prediction.

Different reports say he's gone. Has something changed?

There are no "different reports," so to speak right now.

Shannon Terry made a post about three hours ago that hints he won't play this fall, and makes NO definitive statement in his post at all.

Defensive back Robby Green has been the subject of a lot of discussion over the past couple weeks on whether he will be back this fall and be a member of the Crimson Tide. I think we can end this speculation by saying that he is done and will not play this fall for Alabama.
This shouldn't be a significant hit for the Tide or dampen expectations on the potential for the defense. As Travis has voiced on many occasions, the Tide secondary will be one of the strengths of this team.
Note: I'm going to be away from the computer for most of the day with the 247 publisher conference.

I know he was working out with the team because I had a defensive back tell me he was working out with him in the Moore complex.

I've got a call in...I'll let ya know what I hear back if I can...

Nothing has changed, behavior/trouble wise.

I was told about Robbie from a defensive back on the team who had been working out with Robbie in the football complex. I realize the post—original one—was a week ago but we talked about the same thing this week.

Now, I'm guessing Shannon is making that post because none of the BOL guys have seen RG around the group when they have been doing their drills: running, 7 on 7 workouts, etc.

Not surprising. Robbie has a turf toe and isn't running at all right now.
