🏈 Richardson and Lacy

Same backfield as in behind the same offensive line or behind them at the same time:headscratch:

I think both have the same opportunity to see playing time this fall with the advantage to Trent because he showed up on campus earlier. Lacy may end up red-shirting if our needs are fulfilled by Upchurch, Ingram and Richardson. Otherwise or injury popping up Lacy may play if he learns the offense in time.

Saban patterns the use of running backs a lot like they do in the NFL. A good example, one he's used to describe his style, is Belichick with the Patriots.

He was asked in a press conference this past week what's his idea roster in terms of how many running backs. He said he'd be happy with three.

So, there you have Upchurch, Ingram and _______.

However, he quickly pointed out that running backs were also perfect fits for special teams play. He took it a step further and mentioned how well Upchurch did last season on special teams and mentioned Terry Grant just after that.

Goode is still one to consider as is Grant. I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them on the travel roster for ATL. But, not necessarily seeing snaps at RB but seeing special teams duties. You can guarantee Grant will be on the travel roster. I have no doubt about that.

Another note to add about Saban. I won't go as far as to say he hates red-shirts. But, I will say he doesn't recruit kids thinking "he's one I'll shirt." He wants and recruits guys that have the potential to play and play early.

There's some shuffling going on in our backfield. Huber to TE is an example. I don't think we can get through the season with no having at least one of our guys end up getting hurt, even if it is only for a week or two of rest. So, I have a hard time seeing Lacy end up getting 'shirted.

Can say I don't hope he does though.
