🏈 Rich Rodriguez, spotted at UA today!!

@50+yeartidefan,

I can't tell you what you might hear from AU folk.
I can tell you there are different versions of what happened. While a lot of them carry the same general theme, the names I've seen in a lot of these situations/discussions are wrong.

There were two factions in play. There were a few A-club guys that were against Saban; a lot on his side. More importantly, the major players were academic and athletic--one feelings the other had too much importance and the latter feeling one improves the other. We've seen the latter was correct. (FWIW, two names that are missing in this thread...BIG players in this whole deal.)

Ok....
But my reference was to my knowledgeable Bama folkes that i will interact with on AU weekend...not AU folkes........ who i will not interact with...lol
I just dont have same things going on in my head chronologically....
Like Maybe Dabo was being considered by some.....We know Mal wasnt going assistants route again...so Dabo wouldnt have been under consideration...except by maybe someone who had a personal like for him...

I remember on this site a lot of people throwing Dabo out there. That is why I said he wasn't ever really in consideration. I think a lot of people here wanted him simply because of his Bama ties.

Bryant Jr I suspect is one of the names that TerryP is suspecting is missing. The other one? I will have to pry into my memory a bit.

No. It wasn't PBJr I was referring to. He was involved in the money aspects but that involvement was already underway before Shula was no longer head coach. His input centered around what was haapening--along with what was going to happen--with the Crimson Tradition Fund.

He was involved with boosters in November of that year...meetings about securing funds.

Dabo was never a consideration or a thought. Yes, he was a Alabama guy. But, he didn't have enough experience. Remember that he was out of coaching after the DuBose staff firing in 2001 and was hired by Tommy Bowden at Clemson in 2003.

I never heard his name when thus was going on...but then again, I'm not one to be caught up in crazy stories. Coach Moore made it clear to everyone what experience he was after. Dabo didn't come close.

Hell, I still have doubts he could handle the job today.

I know that Dabo is the sentimental favorite if CNS were to leave, but football isn't a sentimental game. The next coach won't be making Saban money. Dabo has done well at Clemson, and his pay isn't far from CNS. I'm sure that Clemson will try to keep Dabo if a school expresses interest. For these reasons, I'm not putting my money on Dabo replacing CNS.

I agree 100%....which brings to question, who will it be? Smart will stay at his Alma mater I bet and really, while Saban disciples are in high demand, I don't think any of them would be a fit other than Smart. This may be another thread on its own, but it will be interesting to hear what direction you guys think we go when Saban decides to hang up his straw hat?

Personally, I have thought about it and thought about it and can't even venture an educated guess. Maybe someone from the NFL that is on the rise at a coordinator spot? I think the days of BAMA TIES being a resume' requirement are gone. Thoughts?

IMO, CNS' replacement isn't on the radar yet. Everybody mentions coaches in the top 10, but I think the next coach will be someone who currently is good, but hasn't hit great yet.
