Alabama hires former UAB quarterback as graduate assistant
A former UAB quarterback is now a member of the Alabama staff.

The Crimson Tide has hired Mike Miller as an offensive graduate assistant, as first reported by Fox Sports.
Miller will work with quarterbacks and wide receivers, according to his Twitter bio.
The 26-year old was a student assistant coach at Clemson in 2015 and spent last year as a high school offensive coordinator, helping Charlotte Christian in North Carolina go 10-2 and advance to the state title game.
This is the second recent grad assistant hire for Alabama. The Tide hired former Alabama safety Nick Perry as a defensive graduate assistant.

Alabama has hired former Crimson Tide safety Nick Perry as a graduate assistant.
The Prattville native was Alabama's starting free safety as a redshirt senior in 2014, posting 80 tackles and two interceptions in helping the Tide win the SEC championship and advance to the College Football Playoff.
Perry spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles the last two years after he wasn't selected during the 2015 NFL draft.

Alabama appoints Ellis Ponder as director of football operations
Ellis Ponder has been appointed to replace Justin Dickens as Alabama's director of football operations, the university announced Thursday.
Ponder, a Fairhope native, worked alongside Dickens the last two seasons as the associate director of football operations.
Dickens left the program last month.
"The University of Alabama has always been very special to me and I am looking forward to my expanded role," Ponder said. "Coach [Nick] Saban is the best in the nation at running a football program and I truly appreciate the opportunity and his trust in me."
Ponder holds two degrees from Alabama, and prior to joining the university's football program he worked for the Bruno Event Team in Birmingham.

Former Alabama linebacker Denzel Devall has reportedly been promoted to director of player development for the Crimson Tide.
Former Alabama linebacker Denzel Devall has reportedly been promoted to director of player development for the Crimson Tide, according to the Bastrop Daily Enterprise.
Devall fills the void left by Freddie Roach, who is Ole Miss' new defensive line coach.
Devall was initially hired at his alma mater in July as a personnel assistant, assisting in recruiting, film evaluation and player development. Per the Bastrop Daily Enterprise, he was moved to assistant strength and conditioning coach in January before being elevated to his current position last week.
Although his recruiting abilities are limited to Alabama's campus, the Bastrop, La., native admits recruiting is one of his favorite parts of the job. Devall had a hand in the Crimson Tide adding four top-rated players from Louisiana to its top-ranked class.
"Once they come on campus, we have them," Devall told the Bastrop Daily Enterprise. "It doesn't take much. This place sells itself. They just need a younger cat who has played here to reassure them. I talk to them about how to carry themselves, things like that."
Devall's eventual plans are to land an on-field coaching position. Though several opportunities have presented themselves, he has chosen to remain at Alabama. With a new title, Devall's focus now shifts to spring practice and preparing for the 2017 season.
"That's the culture here -- winning," Devall said. "We're not satisfied with any type of record if we're not holding up the trophy at the end of the doggone year. That's the standard. That's what is expected.
"I tell the guys all the time, 'Yall have to keep the legacy going. The guys before me started it, and we kept it going.' There's something about wearing that 'A' across your chest. You're playing for a bigger purpose."
During the 2015-16 season as a senior, Devall registered 25 tackles, five tackles for loss, two pass breakups and one sack from his outside linebacker position along the defensive front. He played in 50 games throughout his college career, making 25 starts.

Alabama Football: Chris Weinke Joins Staff As Offensive Analyst
If history proves anything, it proves that being an offensive analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide is a great way to springboard to a great job elsewhere.
With Nick Saban acting as a tree in which other coaches can branch from, Chris Weinke will now get the opportunity to blossom from the sideline.
Today, the Tide announced that they hired Weinke as an offensive analyst, filling a role that has experienced its share of turnover this offseason.

Today, the Tide announced that they hired Weinke as an offensive analyst, filling a role that has experienced its share of turnover this offseason.
Weinke is a proven commodity on the field, but his resume still needs some filling out as a clipboard and headset guy. Having won the Heisman Trophy as a member of the Florida State Seminoles in 2000, his professional career was brief and included brief stints in Carolina and San Francisco before he retired and turned his attention to coaching. Much of his time has been spent as the head coach alongside John Madden at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He most recently worked as the quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams.
Weinke now finds himself in the same position that a number of coaches have used to get secure a better job elsewhere; a coach on a Nick Saban coaching staff. Lane Kiffin is now at FAU. Steve Sarkasian is now with the Atlanta Falcons. Clint Trickett was there for less than a month before he got a job coaching the tight-ends at FAU.
How long might it take Weinke to go elsewhere?

Seems there is room for more OA/DA's; especially if HCNS would like to stockpile in anticipation of the 10th on field coach. (whether this be approved for 17 or 18).
Who is charged with quality control or Self Examination of the D/O?
Not sure exactly what Bobby's duties are as Special Asst to HC. But would really appreciate some additions that are able to supply better info re: traits and tendencies of both the O and D

Williams duties are primarily with the offensive coaching staff. During games, you'll see him talking with Burns as much as anyone (especially after ST plays.) There's an analyst, Brendan Farrell, who works closely with both of these guys on special teams as well.

Right now they've got Neighbors (Wesley, you know him) and Garrett Cox (former LB coach Tx Southern.)

Thanks TerryP,

wondering if Bama has ever suffered such turn in the coaching ranks (other than bringing in a new HC)? Seems there is turn each year, but I don't remember this much ever.
