🏀 Reports: Avery Johnson and Alabama negotiating buyout.

Damn! No sooner did I post the above, did THIS tweet hit my feed!

BREAKING

The quote at the end...

“I love being the coach here at Alabama. That’s my plan," Johnson said after the game Wednesday night. “I made that crystal clear to Greg in our (Saturday) meeting. And hopefully they feel the same way. But I’m committed to it. I still have time left, obviously on my contract.

The emboldened part says it all. He was DARING Greg to fire him, knowing he's gonna get a nice paycheck.

Fuck him. I used to love Avery, thought he was a great ambassador. That quote right there says it ALL about who he REALLY is.

Fuck. Him.

8 million is a butt load of money to pay someone to leave. After watching the NIT game though, it is obvious that the players are not playing hard for him. Personally, I hate to see anyone lose their job.

If the Bama athletic department is going to take basketball seriously, they need to build a new gym, not update Coleman. They also need to bring in a coach and give them the resources needed to be better than a middle of the road SEC team.

Like the Godfather said, "Nothing personal, it's just business."

Hopefully, it's someone already in the tourney. So I'll keep me eyes peeled. Murray State was a fun watch last night, but they may not do as much racing without Ja Morant. But it does bring up the subject as to the kind of team that would be successful at the Capstone.

The tourney is getting full of teams that are playing 3-ball. Littler teams with a lot of flash and dash that want to put them up from the cheap seats and run, run, run. That takes a certain kind of coach in itself, like Murray State, the barners, even Villanova runs a version of outside in.

This tournament would be good to take a hard look and see which teams are running the uptempo, spread em out offensives and have been particularly good at it.

And one or 2 players elevate a team....make a HC look good...
Longevity insuccess...or course those type wont leave...unless???????????

I'd take that coach at Wofford, Mike Young, if he could bring those 3 guards with him!! Their FT%s, 84%, 90%, and 91%. The kid shooting 91% is the all time D1 3 point FG made with OVER 500+!!!!!!!

I would throw the Brinks truck at coach Budenholzer of the Milwaukee Bucks and sit back and enjoy the ride. Still not going to happen. But his style of offense has turned every player loose and they are still playing great defense.

We really need to change the direction of this school's philosophy about basketball. We need skilled ballhandlers and we need shooters. Guys that have good fundamentals before they get to the Capstone. Quit loading up on these so-called athletes. And someone like coach Bud who knows what to do with them.

We need someone that gets the game these international players are bringing to the NBA and college basketball. Yeah, let's go get more of them as well.

Shame on me, but I pulled for Norfolk State the other night because I knew that that would be the final straw for Johnson. When Grant was fired, Johnson wasn't our 3rd, 4th, or 5th choice. He was NOT even a choice, period! And it's painfully obvious why. The man had no idea what he was doing. I found myself at times actually wishing that we had never fired Anthony Grant. That speak volumes right there.
