🏈 Replacment linebacker coach

Just my two cents...I think it would be a good move if we could find an ex NFL linebacker to come in to teach the position. Kind of what USC has done with Ken Norton. You know you would have someone who knows how to play the postion and even better if you could find an ex Alabama NFL linecker so you know his heart would be with the program.

Norton is a bit of an anomaly and that's setting aside he's coaching at USC and played at UCLA.

He came on as a GA and has worked his way up through the system. He's definitely benefited from the amount of talent he's had at his disposal at USC.

If you put him in the "normal track" when it comes to how coaches move up the food chain I seriously doubt he'd be a commodity highly sought after considering he's spent less than five years in coaching.

The NFL connection is something I firmly believe we'll see.

One thing we have to keep in mind is the differences between a 4-3 scheme like most teams run and a coach being hired to run linebackers in a 3-4. The OLB's and the ILB's are very different positions even though they are part of the linebacker group.

I say that for this reason...it's going to end up where we'll have two coaches hired, both as linebacker coaches.

BUT, and this is most important here, I wouldn't look for a linebacker coach (as in experience) to fill the job. If you consider how often our JACK plays the line of scrimmage, having a defensive line coach take the OLB position is a very good move as well. I suspect, that's exactly what we see for our OLB coach.
