🏈 Really PAC-12...

So you finally check the box for a conf championship game in 2011 (SEC did this ~20 years ago)...and now you think you should be telling the SEC how to be equal (aka 9 conf games).

I'm all for the SEC going to 9 conf games. I just don't like the idea of them trying to dictate what the SEC does - worry about beating Texas Coach Riley.

I would love for the SEC to go to 9 conference games but now I am not so sure.

This was their cry before adding the CCG. In the same argument you'd hear about how well the PAC has done against SEC competition over the years when conversations involving conference strength came in to the picture.

In a manner of speaking, what they said was true if you looked at PAC vs SEC and only took the top two or three teams out of the PAC.

Just as one example...do you recall who Arizona State lost to last year?

What the heck, let me go on for a minute.

Oregon, as example: 3-2 against the SEC. Two of those wins came against Mississippi State ('02-'03) who managed to win a total of five ball games those years. The third win? Against a 6-7 Tennessee team (three conferences wins over Vandy, Kentucky, and Ole Miss.)

I like the 9 conf schedule for a few reasons, the main one is to keep the SEC looking towards the future - we should be planning for what things will look like 10 years out. The SECCG was a prefect example of this.

I will say this, I appreciate that some of the PAC-12 schools don't play or very infrequently drop down a division to play opponents (Stanford and USC come to mind). I'm not a fan of scheduling outside of the FBS.

Stanford might want to avoid games against teams lower than FBS: they hold a 1-1 record with a 2005 loss to UC Davis.

Ironically, Riley is the subject of the tweet in your original post and they've played the most non-FBS teams of the PAC.

The PAC has played 62 games against non-FBS teams over the last 20 years. The SEC exactly twice that amount (with less losses, fwiw.)
