I was bored, and am posting this because some people seem worried that Jimbo has gone to A&M. While I certainly think he is an upgrade from Sumlin, I don't think Alabama fans need to be scared of Fisher.
Jimbo was hired in 2007 @ FSU - Saban wanted him the same year.
He became head coach in 2010. He was known as an offensive expert.
Like Bowden, he had little competition in the ACC, and that conference is certainly not known for their defenses. But despite the lack of competition, and the recruits, FSU finished in the top 20 in total offense only twice, and those are the ONLY two years they finished higher than Alabama's, despite the difference in competition.
National rank of FSU, Total Offense, each year Fisher was OC or HC. (with our rank in parentheses)
2007 - 72nd, 7-6 (67th)
2008 - 46th, 9-4 (41)
2009 - 23rd, 7-6 ( 15)
2010 - 34th, 10-4 (22)
2011 - 64th, 9-4 (30)
2012 - 9th. 12-2 (19)
2013 - 4th, 14-0 (national championship) (32)
2014 - 21st, 13-1 (9)
2015 - 49th, 10-3 (19)
2016 - 27th, 10-3 (7)
2017 - 94th, 7-6 (17)
85-23=79% winning percentage
Texas ranks 3rd in Division 1 recruits - it's a fertile recruiting ground. And he can certainly recruit. But he will face stiff competition there as well. Certainly he has been a successful coach, but he built on what Bowden had done. The natty is certainly a feather in his cap, but for me, I don't know that he makes the SEC west that much tougher than it was with Sumlin.
So, in only 2 years did he have a better total offense, despite having a better recruiting base, and weaker defenses.
