Alabama redshirt sophomore running back Ronnie Clark suffered a torn Achilles tendon in practice Thursday, sources told AL.com.

This is the second time Clark has suffered a torn Achilles tendon since arriving at Alabama.

The former Calera High School star tore the other Achilles tendon as a freshman in 2014.

Clark was working as the No. 3 running back behind Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris this spring.

so is there something inherently wrong with his running style, conditioning, etc... that makes him susceptible to torn achilles? I mean its a fairly common injury, but it's not like if you play football you expect to tear it one day, kind of like an ACL or MCL or something... It's just really odd that he's torn both just while at Bama...

Genetic combined with intense workouts.

Hate it for the kid, also hate it for our depth. One more thing I hate, thread title, was for sure it was gonna be Scarbro
Genetics does play a role in sports injuries. John Croyle, DE under Bryant in the earl seventies, tore both ACL while at Alabama, daughter Reagan, who played basketball for us, tore both ACL. Son Brodie tore one in high school, one while at Alabama. An extreme example, but this family had some inborn predisposiion to this knee injury.

Normally I'd say next man up, but this is actually pretty significant. Next to Bo and Harris, we basically have a bunch of freshman back there. Unusually thin at RB. Things could go from bad to worse if Bo were to, god forbid, get hurt during or before the season. And I'm not sure Harris could take the reins and be effective. He seems average at best.

I read this and still don't get how a judgment can be made on such a limited, and 'tainted,' sample size. But, let's just leave it alone for now. For that matter, we'll also leave the ranking as the #1 RB in the class of 2015 to the side as well.

I've spoken with more than a few who have watched practice this spring and to a person they say he's made some great strides this spring. But, more importantly, when you have a head coach talk about a player with the media and say "he's done a really, really good job" I'd think it would at least partially quell doubts.

If people want to say Harris looked overwhelmed when they saw him I could agree with that description—as long as it said in the context of when he joined the team and what would be expected of a true frosh with so little experience in D1 football. That has to be balanced against the maturation he's had at the position—again, cited by his head coach.

You would know this better than me, but does it not seem as if Coach has been a lot more complimentary towards his players the past few years? Does it not seem as if he says these things to try and calm down the gossip and media posts about a player that is brought up a lot due to overall recruit ranking as well as their position ranking. Kind of like putting things out there to boost their confidence and get people off their ass. I feel like he's done that, especially with Blake Sims and Jacob Coker since they were in the spotlight for obvious reasons. You know better than me, so I'm curious on your thoughts, and I agree about casting judgement on Harris until he sees meaningful snaps with the 1's in a game and not just garbage time with crappy blocking.
