Quite Possibly the most useless internet/chat abbreviation known to man. 'nm' can be short for one of two things, 'Never mind' and 'Nothing much'.
Commonly misinterpreted by users, the abbreviation can be harmful, even fatal.

In this case, Tim is right.

It means No Message.

You would have to have visited and posted on a forum like the one most of these guys are from to understand that.

It's set up a lot like TI is...where a lot of the time a response to a thread is in the subject box instead of the message body box like this one.

Commonly used as no message. Sometimes you will see NFM - no further message. It is used on boards where the posts are displayed as nested under each other, as opposed to the flat display that we have. The benefit of the nested, is that you can see who is replying to whom, without quoting. The down side is page reloads to read the whole thread.

Nesting was popular when bandwidth was more limited or metered (meaning you pay by the kilobyte). In this day of bandwidth glut, that is usually not an issue. It is possible for a board to get so big that bandwidth becomes expensive, but that is not usually an issue for private fan sites.

The utefans.net site drives me nuts because it is nested and so slow to load pages. I will not register and post there because it is so slow.

While speed isn't an issue, one of the reasons I avoid the TiderInsider message forum is the way it is formatted. You might find a good thread from a few hours ago on page 3 and even if it's something you want to get in on it's essentially buried.

Nested threading that does not collapse (expandable topics make nesting tolerable), and topics do not go to the top when replied to = yech.
