It's my opinion this is a case of perception versus reality.
At the beginning of September last season, a week or so after VT, I posed a question about "bend but don't break" defenses that we've witnessed over the past three or four years (since this spread option/hurry-up trend) became a fad. If you look at some of these games (more than UM and AU) you'll see cases where we play with that type of philosophy.
Just looking at the last game against AU ... over 100 yards less their normal offensive output and over a TD less than what they are normally scoring.
Yes, they didn't "stop" Auburn's offense. Contain it? I'm OK with how it went down.
