šŸˆ Possible Departures?

I understand your point. How many understood Barnett's?

If he'd have stayed he'd have lost a year. Choosing to leave when he did (despite the circumstances and the "influences" he was hearing) was a smart move. Personally, I have a hard time with the word "quitter" when he's looking out for himself.

Like a lot of things, another situation where I see things a little differently than others, eh?

I understood Barnett's point and it was painfully clear. He would have lost a year of eligibility where he was GUARANTEED to be the starting QB. Otherwise, he was playing a lot of football at QB, at Alabama, the college of HIS choice, as a redshirt freshman. To surmise, Barnett was the backup QB on a NC team and was an injury or just simply poor performance on Jalen's part of being the starting QB. How is that not quitting on your team? After transferring to ASU, is he now guaranteed such a starting job? And suppose again, it doesn't materialize as a redshirt, transfer freshman? If not, I smell a transfer. If so, he quit..................................... again.

I believe our staff, in an attempt to be coy with the press and S.C., to start Barnett as a ploy; with the staff, Barnett and Hurts and the team knowing all along that Hurts was going to replace Barnett quickly in the game and be the starter the rest of the year. Which didn't sit well with Barnett.

Saban doesn't give a crap about the press and it wouldn't impact his decision. He will tell the press "it's none of your business."

With Napier moving to be his OC, I'd say his chances are pretty good.

BB made the best decision for him. Yes, he quit midseason as a backup QB. His loss had no impact on team performance. Actually, it may have even helped it if the team split around who they thought was best QB. He was a great recruiter for the team, so we got that out of his time at UA. I wish him well.

99% of the time I will give the players the benefit of the doubt... The NCAA "system" AKA business model is extremely flawed.

I can see why Barnett left when he did, and it makes a lot more sense now that he's eligible. However, I thought he did his teammates dirty. Grey area in most situations

All this talk about Kief, well look at D'Shawn Hand. He was the #1 recruit in the country and has played a little more than Kief, but certainly not made the impact a five star like him is expected. Like TerryP said, Coach Saban likes immediate contributors, but I think he honestly sees a Junior as the primary year of true every down contribution.

You're right Old Player, CNS wont show his hand to anybody, especially the press ( media ), which is the right thing. He should never give any opponent anything to go on. CNS said all through camp that all three qbs had a chance to be the starter. But he didn't say how long the starter would play in the game against SC or who else would be the starter the rest of the year.

Terry I can't argue your point, but I CAN discuss it.

Yes, he DIDN'T lose a year, because he left early AND he got his waiver - it will be interesting to see if the NCAA continues that - I think it makes a real mess of things, but it benefits kids in Barnett's shoes. It DOES lead to a sort of free agency in college FB.

BUT, as was published, it will be a bit of a blemish on his resume. AND you have to wonder - would he have played, even changed who started, if he had stuck around and fought, and gotten a chance in the LSU game, for instance? Where we needed a passer and Jalen couldn't get that done? In the Auburn, or the Washington, or the Clemson game? What COULD HAVE HAPPENED?

Hurts DIDN'T get hurt, and DID lead us to an undefeated season, and he's done well. But none of us will ever know what COULD have been had Barnett stayed and competed.

Hand has played a lot more than Kief. Hand was in the rotation in 2016. My theory is that Saban looks at not what the player has done in HS, but what he can do in college. In Hand's case, he dominated in HS due to his size (relative to who he played against). Many of these types of players are standing out based on raw talent, not technique. It takes some time to learn how to correctly use their size, with talent, with proper technique.

Ed Zackery.....you can't get to the NFL as a freshmen but you better be playing well your 3rd year if you intend to make the League. Those players that have t patience to follow his Process have a chance to reach Their goals and Bama has a chance to have success as well. Team ...Team ....Team.

Prior to last season, all I heard, or read about, was that CNS would never start a Freshman QB. Much less play one. I think BB went into his Soph. year thinking he only really had to contend with the other two QB's (that have since left). When surprise, all of a sudden a Freshman QB was adored by the media, the fans, and a large majority of his teammates, and gets more attention and calls for being the starter before even the first game. I believe BB felt betrayed, therefore, his decision to leave was more along the lines of looking out for his future, and not Jalen Hurts (whom I do believe will be absolutely great if he can ever deliver the long ball), so he took his butt where he believes his talent will be appreciated, and developed. Not sitting on a bench, waiting to see if JH gets injured. Which helps his career none at all. In today's climate, it ain't personal. it's business.

If BB felt betrayed and he may well have, what does that say about Barnett's sense of entitlement? There are many examples of this stuff that will keep repeating itself at Alabama. Sheffield wasn't competing for only one spot on the defense and he flew the coop. With the nickel and dime packages, he could have been participating all over the field. Leaving as a freshman because a certain position at cornerback was taken by a junior was selfish and smacked of serious ego.

Hey, if it ain't happening now, it ain't happening. They'll learn, just not at Alabama.

I agree he has played, but his impact has not been near what his ranking and hype was coming in. NOW, I am of the thought at a place like Alabama you wait your turn unless there is a direct need. We use our upper classmen to teach and humble the new guys and simply teach them The Process, so once they become Juniors they have bought in 100% and then they are ready to lead and teach. Hand will be that guy this Fall.

You're right, of course. But in BB's case, I don't know if it was a sense of entitlement, perhaps more of a sense of perceived expectations, with the sense of a Freshman QB competing when it was always expressed that it just wouldn't happen in CNS's coaching philosophy. Had it been one of the other two, BB may have stuck it out for the year, at least, as they were not true Freshmen. With JH coming on as he did, he probably saw the writing on the wall, and felt it was a waste of his time there. Maybe that's why the two have left now, also. Greener pastures?

I agree. It will be interesting to see how it works out for Sheffield at tOSU

Emmons has 2nd surgery on foot. I forget how far into season his injury occurred. If it was too late in season for MRS, he might wind up redshirting next year in order to be ready for 2018. I had heard talk of the seriousness of the injury possibly being career ending. It was obviously pretty severe. I hope he makes a full recovery and gets an opportunity to compete for playing time in our loaded backfield or if necessary somewhere else. In his limited action this past season I was impressed with him. He was very highly thought of coming in as a freshman but IMO Jacobs offered a unique style that got him into the rotation ahead of BJ.

I would love to see him RS and get healthy. Cannot see any way he comes off injury and beats out the 3 guys ahead of him, AND both freshman. Take a year off, get right... Bo will be gone and possibly Harris, start fresh as a RS soph.

When they remove screws ... is that considered a surgery? Or is it just labeled a procedure?

That's a bad place in the foot to have issues. It can range from minor to major so arbitrarily.
