Do ya'll see anyone making a change from one position to another this offseason? Maybe some of the RBs moving to the defensive backfield?

It's not to the "Jimmy Johns to linebacker" fervor yet, but it has all the makings to reach that level.

If the staff feels the need to experiment with some guys, there's a good chance we'll hear about it in the next couple of weeks while they are spending more time with these younger guys.

Terry, what do you think will happen with Terry Grant? I think he gets lost in the shuffle at tailback and he makes the move to slot receiver. He has really good hands and I don't think he will be asked to pick up blitzing LBS out there.

And I hope that is all it is "Speculation". BJ is a phenomenal athlete that just needs to learn how to play the WR position. He played QB, RB, WR in high school and was expected by many fans to just step right in and "get it" at receiver in the SEC. He didn't and fans keep bemoaning the fact that his role was so limited. He is not Julio Jones (not many are) and that is no slight against him.

BJ has already lost a year of eligibility (a shame looking back). Why then would he and the coaching staff risk another one by switching over to DB and having to learn yet another position, plus the Defensive Playbook? BJ is going to be a standout receiver at Alabama before he is through, maybe even next year.

It's hard to say with TG. Any of the scenario's mentioned in this thread are possibilities, with the exception of a medical.

I know it's been hard on him this season to see so little playing time versus last year.

It's not mere speculation.

BJ has said that the staff was going to give him a shot at offense to start off and then they'll get together to see where they go after that. He has always considered himself a play-maker, but always follows that with "whichever side of the ball I'm on..."

It's important to remember he was recruited as an athlete, not a wide receiver...

Learning the cornerback position in Saban's defense isn't complicating. We play a ton of man coverage, so it's really more technique than learning the playbook.

As of this moment, in my opinion, we have a greater need for a playmaker at the receiver position than the cornerback position. Depending on who we sign in this class will be the deciding factor on which side of the ball Scott plays. I say he stays on offense.

I agree, I think he should be used like Percy Harvin at UF! He's a phenomenal athlete and could play both corner and WR.

However, his NFL future might be more conducive to CB. Selfishly, I want him to touch the ball. His best chance for big money is probably on D.

Burton will excel at whatever position he is playing. In my opinion, he would be a phenomenal cornerback. Not only did he play the positions you mentioned, but he also kicked off, punted, returned punts and returned kicks. He literally NEVER came off of the field. In the SEC, however, it takes a little more than raw talent. No doubt in my mind that if he can grasp the playbook, he will get more touches. Burton was one of the phenoms mentioned by Andre when talking about the (freshman)future stars on our team. Not good players, but STARS. I also think Maze was owed a chance to shine this year, ahead of Burton.

I guess the best way to find out what is going on is to ask the players. I'll report back what I find out.
