| FTBL College Football Playoff Rankings Discussions & Updates

I think the whole cold weather thing is bunk anyway, unless its just snowing like crazy then both teams are affected equally (See the Buffalo Bills game last Sunday night). Now, if you are talking temps below zero, I am sorry but no one gets used to that and if you are playing football, rudimentary 30's is not a huge deal and actually feels okay with all the gear. Just keep the QB's hands warm.

Now, the same gear when the heat index is over 100F, THAT takes conditioning.

I was talking with a sales rep that I've dealt with over the years - Hard core Domer. He thinks that ND will have a tremendous advantage because when ND played FSU up there it was cold & the FSU players were " intimidated" by the cold! They really believe this stuff!
Something just didn't 'click' when I read this post. It was one of those, "that ain't exactly right." Now, I'm saying it's this...

Bullshit.

That was in 2020 where FSU finished the season with three wins: a two win Duke, an eight win UNC, and Jacksonville State. FSU was not any good that season. It was basically a "buy game."

Secondly, the temp at kickoff ... dropped two degrees through the game. The game kicked at 7:30.

I call bullshit on most everything the dude says- which I think is indicative of most ND homers. I also remember him stating how “stupid Saban is for hiring Lane Kiffin” while defending Brian Kelly

We knew this would be the case when the 12 team playoff box was opened. Eventually, it will be all conference champions are in with a bye and the top 4 of each conference or something crazy. Basically, winning 7 games will put you on the bubble. Money. Money is the problem. It'll be like a 24 team tournament eventually an bowl games outside of the national tournament will be an after thought. Mark it down. College football has changed completely the last10 years or so.

There is a plan on the table that is very similar to that for when it moves to 14, but only the SEC and B1G champ would get the auto bye.

The college game has completely changed. Teams that aren't in the playoffs are gonna have players sitting out left and right. They should make an "nit" for football.

Some will certainly sit out (some probably should if they are 1st round guys and playing in a shit bowl), but a lot of schools wised up and restructured NIL/Collective contracts... If these guys want that last check, which is now the biggest check in these cases, they can't sit out that final game. That'll give them something to think about and for some, it's an invective too good to pass up.

With that mindset they'll start sitting out once they have no shot at the Playoffs. Need to tie NIL to playing through the bowl or get fined like the NBA fines teams for sitting star players.

That's what I was trying to say... if they want their final check, they have to play in the bowl. Some will still sit out but others won't pass up that money. IMO, it's a taste of what they are in for when they end up under 3 year contracts (or some such similar).

I didn't realize some nil money is tied to a bowl game. At this point, it's the only way to "force" players to play the entire season. I get it on some level though. For instance, Bryce Young would have been completely justified in sitting against Kansas State a few years ago

It's been a little bit of an evolution in NIL for some places... the schools are starting to figure out how to better handle some of this stuff as it goes along.

Yep when money starts exchanging hands to come play (I do not think this was the intent if NIL), the player becomes an employee and there will conditions of employment that should be applied. Next up if it is not already happening is paying taxes and into social security.

Yeah, the players are going to find themselves locked into things, which is what contracts tend to do. Some of the power starts to shift the other way at that point... rabbit gets the gun, kinda. Or at least, rabbit also gets a gun.
