🏈 Playoff legislation on House docket

A plus one or in other words a 4 team playoff is fine, but any more then that wouldn't be fair to every team in the SEC. To go through the relentless SEC stretch, the SECCG, then possibly THREE games...just too much.
 
I used to be one of the loudest proponents of a playoff system. I used to be so vehemently against the BCS it wasn't even funny. That is until this year. This year, 7 out of 13 of Bama's opponents are end-of-season Sagarin Top 30 teams going 7-0 obviously. In addition, Bama is 3-0 against Sagarin Top 10 teams. No other school is even close to that combo. And that doesn't even include South Carolina, Kentucky, or MSU all of which are very tough. That kind of schedule beats the crap out of a team. When you consider that, it simply isn't fair to make a school that has come that path to beat three more teams or whatever in a playoff system, especially when some of these schools have had a cakewalk. Look at TCU, Texas, and Cincinnai for example as three other undefeated schools. NONE of them have even PLAYED a Sagarin Top 10 team! Nor has Ohio St, Iowa, or Penn St. Boise St. has played 1. As far as Top 30s, Boise St. is 1-0, Texas and TCU are both 2-0, and Cincy is 3-0. It's not even in the same ball park.

Consider this also: not all conferences even have Championship Games yet, which in and of itself is a playoff for all intents and purposes. Those Conferences that do, expose both schools to season ending losses and the actual loser drops in the bowl system. I think first and foremost ALL conferences should have mandatory Championship Games and we can see where that takes us for a season or two. If that doesn't shake things out, then we can come back to a possible plus one or four team playoff.

I agree with having a Championship game for everyone.

However, some of these school attempt to schedule big name teams with no love. take Boise for example. They said they were open to playing anybody anywhere and it doesn't even have to be a home and home game. Anybody.....but guess who called them ? That is correct, nobody wants to play them. Because it is a lose lose situation for big name programs such as Alabama, GA, or Florida and others. We don't make money, if we win we don't get anything out of it because people will just be like "see they aren't that good", but if we lose....now thats another story. I will look for that article on Boise saying they will play anybody and post the link.

I call BS (get it?) on Boise St. They claim they will play anyone anytime, but earlier this year when pressed on it, they had to admit, they had only called about 3 schools. They talk the talk, but they are really not doing much about it. No sympathy here. Also, it doesn't have to be Bama or Florida or Texas. As I mentioned, they only played 1 Sagarin Top 30. How about Arizona? Iowa would surely play them. What about Nebraska? There's BYU and Stanford all in that part of the country. What about Texas Tech, TAMU, or Ok St. Shoot, how about our Brothers in Arms school, Utah. I bet Utah would stomp them. Or if they were serious, they could switch conferences.
 
Bobby Bowden put FSU on the map in the late 70s and 80s by playing anyone he could get to give them a game. Home and home if he could, home and two aways at times. even just road games. Peterson has the right idea. I wish we could give Boise a game.
 
Look, I'm good with a playoff system. It's going to have to be more than 4 teams to make it equitable. And what of the poll system? Are we just going to take the top 8 or 16 teams and make them play? What factor will winning your conference or playing in your conference title game and losing have on that? Does anyone think Nebraska should be allowed in a hypo playoff this year? I do, but they aren't ranked.

Before these hotshot turds in DC think they can force the hand of College Football, they need to devise a fair playoff system. Division 2 will be the model, if you ask me, and the bowls are not going to like it. Suddenly, most of the crap Jan 1 bowls that don't matter are going to be played on December 12 and 19th, and not on 1/1. That will kill attendance, and it will hurt revenues.

what else? Oh, let's see....So we pick the top 4 teams, which isn't nearly enough to be a true playoff system, and we pit them against one another. Boise wouldn't even qualify this year. It'd be UA, UT, TCU, and Cincy. Florida's out; they're #5.

You can't do it with 4 teams. You can't do it without everyone having a conference title game. You can't do it with 12 regular season games because it will draw the length of the season out.

I'm in favor, but it's got to include every team that it should. You can't get them all in if you only select 4. There will always be years when there are huge exceptions. The Bowl system will die, other than the top 5-7 bowls.

The vote is to not allow a game titled "National Championship" without a playoff format. I guess if they just rename it they could keep it as is ? Hell, I don't know
 
I would love to see a playoff as long as it doesn't go over 8 teams. Anything beyond that and it would water down the regular season to much.

Here's my base scenario to what I'd like to see:

Narrow it down to 8 conferences.
Each conference has to have a championship game.
The Conf Champs go to the playoffs, seeded by rankings, i.e., 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.

They can keep the bowl games for the teams that don't make the playoffs. Seriously, would the GMAC Bowl, Independence Bowl, or even the Sugar Bowl for that matter, mean any less if there were a playoff than it does now?

All the Bowl games but one are just meaningless exhibition games now as it is.
I'd like to see this or something very similar, or just go back to the old Bowl system. At least in the old system, as many as 4 or 5 of the games "could" have some bearing on who won the NC.

I think they just need to draw schedules from a hat. No more allowing schools to schedule cupcake teams. Everyone needs to play a conference championship to determine the winner of that conference.
