🏈 Playoff legislation on House docket

Exactly Tim. We could possibly even see some of the smaller FCS schools drop their programs if they can't make the money to run a program. $500,000-750,000 sure goes along way in helping the little programs. The smaller FBS conferences will definitely feel the sting as well. I think the school presidents will argue that a playoff goes to long and it hurts the student athlete and then Congress will suggest cutting back the number of regular season games from 12 down to as low as 8-10 games. How are they going to determine who gets into this playoff bracket when polls often times set you up how you finish the year before. Then those that have a great season but aren't given the pre season love (ala the Barn in 04) are left out of the playoff. Congress needs to straighten out our country and all of its problems and leave football to the schools and sadly the NCAA.

I don't think it has as much to do with our success as we might want to believe, but nonetheless, there are people that are pissed about our domination again. I'm sure if Phillip Fulmer were asked his opinion, he'd opt for some changes right now.

College football is a money maker at a lot of schools, but it's a net loser at a lot of other places. I wonder if poor attendance schools like UAB and Vanderbilt think it's a money maker? Sure Bama turns a mean buck, something like a 200% margin, but it partially funds a lot of the lesser known sports, and women's sports, which are all in the hole.

Bottom line is the folks elected to make the decisions have run out of ways to solve our biggest problems and are attacking more profile, lesser issues to show their worth, and get re-elected.

I don't see Congress trying to pass legislation for a playoff as a shot at us at all. I think it is a shot at the "big boys" in general. The system is flawed but then again it always has been. The non-qualifier conferences are getting 2 teams in this year at 14-17 million each. They are getting a piece of the pie and a mighty nice slice if I might add. If you want in, step up and join a qualifying conference or shut up.

So, all playoffs in other divisions should be done away with as well?

I'm sure there are teams that would love to join the SEC if they could be allowed. Just let all the teams join one conference then and have a playoff. Like, I don't know, call it the NCAA or something, and let them all play.

The BCS is doing the exact same thing. They make the rules for College Football when it comes to the post season.

I'm not here to argue with you nor anyone else. I was just stating my opinion, no need for you to personally atack me.

Thanks

not personally attacking you at all and sorry if you took it that way.

Just pointing out that the line of thinking your explaining is the wrong way to look at this issue. Its not a playoff vs bowl system argument, its a govt involved vs private institution argument.

There are a lot of factors involved here but just saying that a lot of money is generated by these games does not allow the govt to come in and dictate what should happen.

It doesn't matter to me if we have a playoff or not. Div 2 uses it along with the NFL. People are going to watch it regardless.

Your right, the government could be doing other things besides worrying about college football. However, I assure you there is other dumb ass bills in place taking up time just like this one. People request our government to do a lot of stuff. Some good some bad.

I'm not going to get into the topic of how I feel our government is because this isn't the right place. But I will say I think it is nice to have such governement in place here in the United Staes so were not living in the situations some other countries are because of how their government is run. I dont think our government has anything on some others around the world. I am glad to be here in the U.S. !
