📡 Pawll says Texas football is no longer relevant

quote:

“Texas is no big deal other than to Texas fans. This is not a relevant program anymore,” Finebaum said on Wednesday’s Get Up on ESPN.

“Go back to 2013 when Texas fired Mack Brown. He didn’t resign. He was shown the door. The same Mack Brown who now has North Carolina in the Top 10. Texas can’t even win its own state anymore. Lost two of its best players to Alabama. It’s pathetically behind Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M and it’s way, way behind its biggest rival in Norman, Oklahoma. Texas is fighting for third at best in its own league.

“The problem isn’t Sark, the problem are Texas people. Nick Saban told me one time, after he turned down Texas, he didn’t want to report to 15 or 20 billionaires everyday. That’s the way that program rolls. Saban took over at Alabama and said ‘I’m in charge here.’ Lincoln Riley has very few people that he has to answer to in Norman.

“That’s the problem for Sark. Every other minute someone else is calling up and wants a piece of him and that program. Until they clear that up, and they haven’t yet, that program will be stuck in the mud.”

Finebaum being Finebaum. He said the same things about Bama. Maybe there is/was some truth on those statements but Texas will find its way back at some point.

Texas has a problem....

this controversy..which is a lot to do about nothing...of the song "eyes of Texas" or something can hang around..like the confederate flag stuff/mascot rebel at ole ms...
Just keeps a barrier in place...

Texas gave Charlie Strong and Shaka Smart a shot at the title and that didn't work for them.

The Viles are in a deeeeeeeep hole. A great thing to see....

I’ve always put zero weight on things that come out of his mouth. It’s already got us posting on here. That means his mission was successful, to him.
We were talking about Sark and Texas a few weeks ago and i cautioned that things weren't as "rosy" as one might be led to believe. Paul's not wrong here. From what I understand, things in Austin aren't any better today than they were under Herman.

I truly feel like they haven't been to rock bottom, and even when they get there.....they will have to dwell in it for some time before they get someone in charge that is willing to give the keys to the kingdom, much like Mal did with CNS.

It was right at 20 years of mediocrity between Stallings and Saban. I don't think a blue-blood like Texas will be down forever. There is too much tradition there. Granted, I believe the money issue and the powers that be, all want to have a say so. It is no different than Jerry Jones and how he runs the Cowboys.

Problem is, it still takes a little time to get things where they need to be. Look at Dabo. He has arguably the second best and most successful program in the country, behind Saban and UA. Dabo took over in mid season of 2008 and went 4-3. 2 years later he had a losing record at 6-7. He didn't beat his biggest rival for the first 5 years he was there. (6 if you count taking over mid season on 2008). He is 3 games above .500 in bowl games 10-7.

I understand we are a microwave society and we want everything yesterday. This is a situation where the money brokers, fans, players, students are all conditioned and expected to win yesterday.
