🏈 Paul Finebaum rips Clemson fans: ‘I’ve never heard a more intoxicated fanbase in my life’

If you’re going to call “The Paul Finebaum Show,” be careful with which coaches put in the same sentence as Nick Saban.

Clemson site TigerNet.com shared a clip from Friday’s edition of “Finebaum” (which sadly was not on the SEC Network due to the team takeovers) in which Paul Finebaum goes off on a Tigers fan for allegedly equating Dabo Swinney to the Alabama coach. The Soundcloud clip posted to Tiger Net begins mid-conversation, when Finebaum starts to go off on the caller and Clemson’s fanbase as a whole.

“How can you put Dabo in the same sentence as Nick Saban?” Finebaum asked. It was only the beginning.

“Who died and made Dabo Swinney the greatest coach of all time?” Finebaum said. “He’s got one national championship, ok? I don’t understand this.”

The SEC Network host reminded the caller that one national championship puts Swinney in the company of former Miami coach Larry Coker and former Auburn coach Gene Chizki, both of whom were pushed out after things went south for the Hurricanes and Tigers.

Finebaum was so mad with the caller he took a shot at the entire Clemson fanbase.

“Since when did Clemson become the it school in the universe?” he asked. “I’ve never heard a more intoxicated fan base in my life.”

Audio of the highly entertaining exchange can be heard below:

Once again Finebaum stinks it up....
I cant understand why people watch or read his work....
Dabo equal to Nick...naw.....no way..maybe one day....ok
But Clemson just took down the beast......
The Clemsonoffense just beat the "greatest defense in CF history"
Hats off to them and their fans....
Now moving on......

Um, no way, never. By saying "some day", you're saying he'll be as good as Bear, and that won't happen again anytime soon. There's no way anothet Bear or Saban happens again in the next 30-40 years, if ever. Dabo would be EXTREMELY lucky to ever get to a Jimbo or Urban type status, which is still two rungs below Saban.

Clemson fans are as bad as Georgia fans. I hated them getting a chance to regain their glory of trash talk as much as I hated actually losing the game. Living in Charleston will help you absolutely hate Clempsun.

If Meyer isn't one rung below Saban, there's not a rung there. The guy has won three NC at two different schools, recruits and uses his talent in a championship manner. I can't stand him, mind you, but he's an unequivocal success of the highest degree. Three 13-win seasons and two NC at Florida, and six losses in five years at OSU, including another NC.

I do think he is further separated from Saban by the character factor of recruiting problem kids, having lax enforcement of the rules (and common decency), or both.

I'd put Jimbo and Dabo on that same rung, two below Saban, perhaps because of their names.

RTR,

Tim

You're right on that. I was making it a point to state that even three Natty's is still behind Saban and the dominance he has shown during the power years of the SEC. Meyer is #2 right behind Saban and may catch up to him Championship wise, but you still don't hear about the total and utter domination of Meyer like you do Saban. Jimbo has more pedigree than Dabo to me, so it feels as if they are separated, but if you go specifically by titles they are the same. I agree with you on your points though.

Didnt say he would but but noone knows the future of anything related to CF...
But it would be ...say...incredibe if such came to pass...i have learned..through many years..to sit back and observe history being made...not try to predict it

Meh.

They've done nothing to make me "hate" them and I've been here, a while. There is a distinct difference in how they act online versus in real life. There's a lot of insecurity masked by a lot of bravado.

This was linked in the last couple of days here. Click, scroll, and read the comments. You'll find a handful of Clemson folk begging for someone to acknowledge them. The thing that gets me is they are getting acknowledgement for the win; they deserve that.

BUT, we're talking about putting Dabo and others on the same level. Far, far too premature.

It's funny that we see Dabo saying his team has moved past '17 (and I have no reason to doubt that) but there's a large portion of their fan base which hasn't (and likely won't.)

FWIW, the "exposure" this story has received started at Tigernet.com when they published an article on Finebaum's call. Some of the responses are spot on, others...not so much.

You'll find the comments at the bottom.

Once again I'd like to point out you have to take it in bits and pieces--hence the earlier references to listening to his podcast.

Ya know, I'm not a fan of Ballers but that doesn't make me stop watching HBO series. I'm not a fan of some of the more ludicrous callers on his show, but that isn't going to stop me from listening to his interviews.

Let me encourage you to check out the options on his podcast. Yesterday, Brad Edwards was in interviewing Snyder, Gundy, Rhule, and a few others. I found some of it to be interesting. Bottom line, it's easy to pick and choose.

It's not that I hate them and want them to die, it's more of a "congratulations you won the big game, but slow down on the best program in the country and best coach chatter". I lived in Charleston when "Clempsoning" was a legitimate phrase, yet all I heard was IPTAY, IPTAY, IPTAY, and how a Clemson class ring meant more than any degree in the South yadda yadda. I hung and worked with a group that went to Clemson and they were great guys, but come football season "shut the fuck up about Clemson" was a weekly occurance. Every year is their year and that's why I equatw them to Georgia fans for the most part, but I can atleast say they have some clout now after winning one recently unlike the Dawgs. And sure, Alabama has plenty of cocky asshole fans, but Clemson hadn't warranted it in 30 years till a couple years ago, yet they think they're better than everybody. You can't deny in Charleston there are plenty of asshole Clemson boys and gals that think they're bettet than everyone just because of the ring and the little C, palm tree, and graduation date sticker on their cars.

FWIW...finally listened to a bit of the segment with the fan from Clemson and Finebaum. There's one thing that jumped out to me I hadn't seen (or either just skimmed over and it didn't register)--he'd called the day before. It's not so much about Paul, just randomly, deciding he's going to eviscerate a caller.

I don't get that from the Clemson folk. Maybe, to a degree, but it normally ends pretty quickly. One caveat: the dozen or so Clemson fans I run into frequently were people I refused to talk shit with before the game. All I said before the game was all I've said after the game--"it's going to be a good game / was a good game."

Now, that's liable to change this upcoming season. I'm breaking out one of these this fall--promise.

Heard we had some Clemson fans all decked out for trolling during the spring game? Takes all kinds and it probably depends on what kind of fan you bump into. A friend of mine is a Clemson grad and last season he came over a few times after the loss for some emotional closure. He was so critical of his team and down I basically just stayed away from rubbing it in. This year, he has been just as careful and respectful, but I'm sure he lets it rip away from me. Hey, it's a national championship and they beat Ohio St and Bama to get it. If you don't celebrate now, when?

Ha ha, I hear you. Bravo on snagging one of those. You'll have to share your experience.
