Spurrier thinks Bama could defeat the bottom dwellers in the NFL.

Herbstreit thinks TAMU is a bigger threat to Bama than LSU even though TAMU has to come to BDS.

Thoughts?

Spurrier is blowing sunshine up our butts in case we meet in Atlanta somehow.

Herbstreit may be right, but only from the standpoint that this LSU game is going to be a powerhouse battle. He may be thinking that, win or lose, a decent team the following week may be getting a "spent" Bama squad. We'll see. I'll just take it one week at a time and hope that our guys do the same.

Spurrier: So desperate to keep his name in the headlines, and has such a desire to be considered the "Godfather" of coaches in the collegiate football realm, will say anything. He proved his mettle with his latest comments about Dabo's statements concerning Lattimore, he proved his grasp on reality with his statements about Bama and the NFL.

I didn't catch Herbie's comments so I don't know the context.

There are a few assumptions I could make. One, he doesn't think LSU is that much of a threat to Bama. Two, he thinks Manziel might present problems for the defense. Or three, he feels there is a chance for such an emotional letdown from the LSU game that the team isn't mentally prepared.

If it's any of those three, I've got strong reason to disagree with each assumption.

The NFL comparisons can be taken either one of two ways: literally or just to spur conversation. It will never happen, so those type comments don't really register with me. Personally, I think there are NFL teams that are undisciplined and do not play as a team and Alabama could 'challenge' them, but the point is moot. Again, never going to happen.

Texas A&M WILL give us plenty of problems, but different problems than LSU. For instance, LSU is stronger and faster and bigger on defense than A&M. LSU is also nastier in their approach to tackling than A&M;therefore, they present more problems from an injury standpoint.

Texas A&M has a quarterback that can make consistent throws, can read defenses fairly well, and CAN run the ball WELL. This quarterbacking factor alone requires a different game plan for our defense...one of containment in our pass rush and less all-out pass rush. This conservative defensive scheme up front allows more time for Manziel to pass by not collapsing his pocket = more chances for positive yards.

If there was a team out there with LSU's defense and Texas A&M's offense, you'd have a true challenge for Bama.
But, there's not.

I agree with Herbstreit, except that LSU at home, at night, with revenge on their minds, and the Hat calling trick play crap, is more dangerous from an explosive play standpoint. KState and Texas A&M are more balanced, imo, than LSU because LSU doesn't yet display consistent offensive play so they don't challenge our defense as much.

And I glance over at the TwitterHub and see this...

you nailed it, his compliments are always backhanded.

I'll say it right now. Texas A&M is more of a threat to Alabama than LSU is. I think A&M next week is more of a threat to Alabama than LSU is even though it's in Tuscaloosa. The reason why I say that is because of Johnny Manziel and because of the style of offense A&M runs. LSU is going to line up in an I formation and average 0.3 yards per carry against Alabama. The only chance you have against Alabama's size is to spread them from sideline to sideline and try to make plays in coverage against them and when things break down, when you have an athletic, mobile QB, that gives you a fighting chance. If you don't have that and Zach Mettenberger runs a 6.3, he's not going to do anything back there. He's Bernie Kosar. He's not going to be able to make things happen with his feet and because of that, LSU's only chance is they got to win with defense and creating turnovers. A&M can hold up defensively and they can give you some problems with their offense. I think A&M beats Mississippi State and that'll set up a big showdown next week in Tuscaloosa that not a lot of people nationally are even thinking about but A&M by the end of the day could give Alabama their biggest test that they'll face all year until maybe they get to Atlanta in the SEC Championship Game.

49 total yards in the second half.

Why? Ends were rushing up field, it was a push but the push was collapsing the pocket and NOT trying to speed rush the ends.

We've got as good of a defense as Florida does.

I see this one as Ole Miss Part Duex.

A&M posses a bigger threat of a possible Alabama let down... Beating LSU on the road, many say the path to the BCSNCG will be a cake walk, so that might get into the players head a little. Then if Alabama loses LSU, that basically puts them out of title picture, so you could have the players mentally drained.

As for Spurriers comment..... either he is trying to hype LSU up even more, or he just has no brain.... Regardless, pretty dumb statement... Total D-bag too, any of you see what he said about Clemson after Dabo said he was sorry about Lattimore? An arse whooping is awaiting him :uglystick:

Tamu's D has no hope of stopping Alabama consistently. Bama scores 30 or more in this one.

Does anyone here think tamu, or even the Atlanta Falcons at this point, score more than 30 on Alabama. No.

Bama wins by 10 or so in a game that seems close early but domination in the trenches costs tamu in the 2nd half... just like most of the other games.

Isn't that what Michigan was supposed to do also?

I'll certainly take Atlanta to score 30.

I haven't watched a down of the NFL this season and I know they are averaging about that per game.

Setting that aside, I'd agree with everything else.
