🏈 One More year w/ Williams, Jackson, Anderson ...

OL, DL and LB will be the most intriguing areas to watch. We will also be breaking in another QB. Funny thing is, we all were on here griping and complaining about needing to just take our lumps with a young guy like Barnett, who is the future, instead of giving the keys to Coker for 1 year. Good thing we don't run this program. We would have most likely ended up in the Bham Bowl instead of winning #16!

I for one owe Coker and Griffith an apology because deep down, I doubted them a lot this year. I would love to see some posts from last spring training threads on here now. Especially the ones which had to do with Coker being awful and that Morris would be our starting qb

Concerning the offensive line, JC Hassenhauer will prolly move into the center position - has an attitude, 2 years in the weight room, a bit of experience. Cam Rob and Peirschbacher will be great on the left. Shank has to do better on the right - Baldwin from JuCo will slide in, hopefully, at RT. I am kinda hoping he's the only one we have to 'worry' about to have the line be 'one' and 'in sync' - and a JuCo guy might be a bit more mature. IF he doesn't get it, then... Greene? Womack.... ? I dunno. Jackson was a disappointment, so not TOO concerned about replacing him.

At TE, if Howard leaves, so be it. He DID have a great game, got open, ran well. That's stuff he HASN'T done consistently this year, and he STILL needs to work on getting a hat on a hat - he was HORRIBLE against the gaturds. IF he bolts, because he's better suited for the NFL, and he can get 1st round money, I don't blame him. That will leave us very thin at TE - not that we've USED it a lot!! Big bodies in D Ball and B Greene if we choose to use them - not really sure how much we get from Hentges.

We are going to be VERY thin at RB. 2 inexperienced sophomores who've shown promise, and some walk -ons, nothing more. Harris and Bo Scar HAVE to step up BIGTIME.

At wide out we look to be good, and more talent is coming.

At QB, it will be interesting - I don't know what else to say.

At CB, I thought we would be fine next year, but then Tony Brown, amazing athlete, apparently has NO self-control. So we'll have Marlon, and then, maybe, Brown, if he comes back? IF not, Sheffield stepping up? Minkah moving over? At safety, no WAY E Jackson gets a 1st round grade - he's coming back. Then we have Harrison. Hootie Jones, Burgess-Becker, might step up and in. Mo Smith will still have a role. I think we are good in the secondary.

At LB, we are THIN. Rueben is a wild card, but I think he does like Ragland - makes himself a 1st rounder with another season. I am hoping Shaun Dion Hamilton will step up and become another CJ. Not sure about Keith Holcombe. I think that Tim Williams can go pro as a specialist, but 1st rounder? Doubtful. He may go for the money, or try to become an every down guy like Saban wants. Ryan Anderson will come back for one more year at beast mode. Christian Miller is fast and talented, and Rashaan Evans is ready for the next step.

Daron Payne will be another Jarran Reed before he leaves, but Josh Frazier needs to step up - haven't seen him much. Would LOVE to see J Allen stay, but he's a beast, and a 1st rounder - just don't see him staying. D Hand had a great game and is ready, and Tomlinson comes back, which is good. Where are the other DEs gonna step up from? Maybe Mehki Brown? Maybe Hulk Jones comes in as a true freshman and pulls a Daron Payne? Need to develop the depth again.

To ME, D-line/DE, and LB, just in the middle, are our HUGE needs. Allen goes early, the rest stay, and we can all have a Merry Christmas!!

Interesting to mull on this. Robinson and Henry are almost no brainers to leave early. Allen has little to gain by staying, as he projects mid first round, yet he has indicated that he might do so. O. J. certainly looked like a first rounder from last night's performance, but were I an NFL GM I would want to know that he can perform at this level consistently before I took him in the first round, so he has something to gain by coming back. Reuben Foster and Mike Williams would elevate their draft standing if they came back. IMO Anderson, Jackson and Tomlinson all benefit from another year.

I saw a few mock drafts before this game, most of them had OJ as the first TE taken before his showing last night. Sohe may be gone just based off that. FTR, most had him going early 2nd round, again as the first TE taken. Weak competition coming out this year.

Hand played a lot in mop up duty, but I noticed a big increase in snaps against Florida and Clemson. He must finally be starting to get it, which as a Sophomore it makes perfect sense. Also, he's in tge same boat as Evans, where can you put them with all of the depth we had? Both will be ready this Fall.

To be fair, Hand has been behind J. Allen for his 2 years, and lets not forget Allen was a top 20 (maybe top 10) overall guy coming out. Plus if you hadn't noticed there are a couple of other 1st rounders on the DL too.

I'm thinking they move Piersbacher to Right Tackle... Much easier for whoever the first year starter is to play guard than tackle... Piersbacher has the body size and athleticism to play either.

I like Cotton he has a real mean streak. Him next to Cam Robinson could be fun to watch. The Pettibon kid could have big time potential also.... But IMO the smart money is on Bozeman if we need a guard... He was beating out Taylor the entire pre season - I think the staff wanted to give Shank the benefit of the doubt due to his freakish size. Somoeone mentioned it above, but Shank can play a lot better... Hopefully next year he takes a huge step forward.

On a site note - Such a shame whatever happened with Grant Hill. He likely would have been a multiple year starter at RT.

Agreed... Damn near no underclassmen was taking snaps from Allen/Reed/Robinson the last 2 years....

Hand is a perfect 3-4 DE for us next year. Will slide inside on passing downs and have his way like Allen did this year.

My comments were based off some things Saban has said and a few of the recruiting rewinds where they go back and see how their rankings looked. Yeah, being behind Johnathan Allen is tough, who was #11 in his class. And I had noticed there were other first rounders on the line and that's where the last sentence in my comment was based off of. Where could you possibly put them?

I quoted the wrong post, didn't mean to state the obvious to you. The post above you said something about not seeing very much of Hand and hoping he can finally reach his potential.

It makes me feel pretty good knowing we will have guys like Hand, Payne, and Tomlinson back on the D-line next season. I know they weren't starters but many of them played significantly.

Unfortunately you've named the only guys who've played coming back lol.

You can pretty much include guys like Tim Williams, Ryan Anderson, Rashaan Evans though because for the most part they are defensive ends. Evans could be the exception
