I like the unis as well. Matt Luke seems like a decent dude and stepped up during a time that absolutely has to be the most difficult for any coach. of course, it's perfect for him because he looks like a hero, gets a few years, and gets major bucks for doing so. He's doing very well recruiting, even with the sanctions, and I'll pull for him and the kids that got screwed by Freeze and Company and didn't bolt like Shea Patterson and Jefferson's sorry asses, except once a year.

In that rebel, Colonel and the Confederate flag had to be pried out of their cold dead hands they should be stuck with super cool nicknames like landshark, black bear and most anything else folks want to throw at them. The university seems to be destined to wandering in the wilderness, forever looking for some type of football identity. Mississippi, the last vestige of everything politically incorrect.

On the spot Tusk....everything.....must be so political correct...but
They will always be the Rebels to me....but... Landsharks is so much better than Black Bears.....
Ole Ms has absolutely no identity......anymore.....

if they want to get away from the whole "rebel" thing, then they need to go ahead and change the name. period.

they need to officially change the name/mascot of the sports teams to land sharks, black bears, whatever they decide to use. and they need to do it fully. no more special this or special that. change it, be done with it, and stop pussyfooting around. they should get rid of ANYTHING that says or suggest "rebels". they should stop selling any type of merchandise with the word or likeness of "rebel". it should all be destroyed and they should create new merchandise with the new name/logo/mascot. just wipe out the old COMPLETELY and start fresh with the new. and then never mention the old name again.

Well, they better get rid of "Ole Miss" then too. While I have zero issues with any of it, if they want to play the sissy card and fold to every ounce of pressure they receive then they better overhaul everything about the school and program. Like you said, don't stick your toe in, gotta jump all in.

FWIW, they are still the Ole Miss Rebels. Their mascot is a Land Shark, similar to Big Al (formerly Alamite the live version) the elephant for UA Crimson Tide.

Note the "Rebs" on the front of the helmets. I have no idea where their bear went.
Retired? It's the only word I can come up with.

I remembered this article because the phrasing stood out to me, "University stakeholders."

Ole Miss adopts Landshark mascot; retiring Bear
