| FTBL OFFICIAL A-DAY THREAD

On the CSS replay they called the Offense "vanilla"....we did not get to see any of our new o =)

The offense may have been vanilla, but the offensive attack sure wasn't balanced.

Crimson passed 40 times and ran 23, while White passed 41 times and ran 18.

Btw, who the heck is Darrah? Guess I haven't paid attention in class.

Thomas Darrah was a second tier prospect coming out of Newnan Ga...some thought he might be a sleeper. He was recruited by 1AA schools and had some interest shown by MAC level programs, but the big programs did not call. That was kind of surprising given some of his performances...he had over 350 yards passing and 6 touchdowns against East Coweta. He added another TD rushing for a total of 7.

Even stranger is that Darrah was 5A first team all-state in Georgia as a Junior (in spite of playing on a losing team) and did not get recruited...VERY unusual at the QB spot. It may have had something to do with his status as a baseball prospect.

Many observers peg him as a more accurate passer than Fanuzzi or GMac, with a much stronger arm than any other QB on the roster. He lacks experience and may lack the "it" that makes a great player...time will tell.

of course it was vanilla, it was A-Day. Saban would be a horrible coach if he opened it all up. The offense showed some promise though. Upchurch ran pretty hard, JPW seemed to settle down towards the end of his playing time. Arenas is a monster returning kicks

It was passing heavy by intent. Saban stated it was puposely pass heavy to work on building comfort with the QBs and the new receiving corp.

i was at the game. Darrah was the highlight of all the QBs on the field to me that day. great arm. good vision of the field. not afraid to take a chance on tough pass. skinny as a bean pole though.

reminded me of Hollingsworth in form, stature and throwing motion.

I don't remember Hollingsworth's throwing motion, but I do remember he was very accurate with sub-par arm strength. Homer Smith's timing routes were his strength, sort of along the lines of Danny Weurfell.

Hollingsworth had a kind of side arm motion...if my memory serves me correct. He did not have a strong arm,Darrah does. I think the way he stood under center kind of reminded me of him...and old Bernie Kosar...knees in the gaps. You could tell from the stands Darrah had a lot of zip on his passes.

It strikes me as odd that he didn't get major looks even with his baseball prospect status. 5A All-State in Georgia his junior year and didn't get a look? Rivals has stats only for his junior year. Did Darrah not play his senior season?

He did. Here's a snippet from a 12/6/06 news article:

Newnan: In Darrah's final high school game, a first-round loss to Houston County in Class AAAAA, he completed 20 of 33 passes for 232 yards and a touchdown and finished his senior season with 2452 passing yards and a 68.2 completion percentage.

Does anyone know yet when they are going to holding the autograph day? I am guessing they are going to do it seperate like they did last year?
