🏈 Official 2014 NFL Draft Thread

The two big stories this afternoon were Sams and Texas not having anyone drafted. The second item is confirmation that it was time for Mack to go. Sams is a "tweener" with less than outstanding vertical, 40 and long jump. The interesting part will be when camps begin and the cuts start coming. If Sams is cut, will all the usual suspects be whining and demonstrating?

Yes I understand what you are saying... He had a lousy combine and I think something like 9 of his 11.5 sacks happened in 3 games, but come on man this is getting a little ridiculous. D-Linemen from Canada and Marist are going before Michael Sam, you will not whatsoever convince me that they are better players than Sam nor have more potential than him. We all know deep down why he is dropping whether its that the teams simply dont want what they think will be a distraction or for whatever the other reason may be.

It is about being a distraction. Most teams just don't see it worth it.

Distraction + poor combine results = where he is today.

My point is the narratives will likely tell one side of the story—but not both.

Take Marcus Golden out of that defensive line at Mizzou and Sam isn't a known name. (Golden made a damn good decision to stay, IMO.)

I'll still maintain if you take Kelsey Quarles out of the rotation on the DL at UofSC Clowney doesn't have the number he did two seasons ago. Quarles wasn't drafted as well.

Another interesting one about Texas @TerryP, Jackson Jeffcoat didn't get drafted, considering he was the number 1 recruit in Texas in 2010, #5 composite in the nation. His father was a first rounder (Cowboys). Stayed to play his senior year, consensus all-american, Big-XII POY, Hendricks award winner too.

His scouting report is interesting, lacks lower and upper body strength (pectoral injuries back to back seasons didn't help), his dad was a DE in the NFL and coach at Colorado...head scratcher for sure.

Seattle signed him as an UFA, got a steal on this one...rich getting richer.

Texas A&M had 3 first rounders (all Sherman boys)...that's not gonna sit well. Aggies are gonna give Tsip fans hell over this one...I'm gonna laugh hard when I hear it.

Last year Damion Square and Robert Lester signed with team as free agents and both ended up as starters at one point or another. I think Hubbard and Mandell will both end up on the active rosters for their teams next year. Of the later round guys I think Pagan is in the best situation. He gets to play with the best D-Lineman in the league, JJ Watt, and will not be pressured to perform right away like Clowney will. I think Stinson is gonna end up starting in AZ and will be one of those guys that has a job for years and years that doesnt get much praise publicly but is one of the more consistent players.

Of the earlier guys I think Mosley is in the best situation, yes he will get compared to Ray Lewis at every turn but he's playing behind a massive D-Line that includes Cody and Ngata and also play with his buddy Courtney Upsahw (who by the way Harbaugh and the D-coaches in Baltimore called the most underrated player on their team).

I'm going to venture a guess and say Mosley is the DPOY next year. Upshaw is one of my favorite players ever, but I think Mosley is better (I could be wrong) and I thought Upshaw had a great year just didn't get the publicity that a lot of other players got.

^^ You mean DROY (Defensive Rookie of the Year) I'm assuming? I would agree, great chance. He and Upshaw are a different type of player tho and Upsahw is asked to do more of the "dirty work" in that defense which is why Harbough and company were praising because he does it and not only never complains but seems to enjoy it. Would be cool for Lacy to win OROY in 2013 and then Mosley to get DROY the next year. HaHa is gonna have a harder time because the Packers defense is just plain bad.
